Personally, I don't think this has any significance.

If we accept that before Laci's death, Scott was having an affair with Amber and was promising to someday marry her -- which seems to be the case, then *if* he did NOT kill Laci and is perfectly innocent, it seems reasonable to me that he would still seek Amber's comfort after Laci's disappearance.

On the other hand, if he had killed Laci, it seems to me like it would have been more sensible for him to have minimized contact with Amber in the aftermath of that. He had to know he would be a suspect. Anyone who watches TV would know that. Contacting Amber in any way would be an irrational act for a guilty person.

In my mind, his frequent contacts with Amber are exculpatory. That's not to say that I don't think he did it -- I do. I just don't think the frequency of his contacts with Amber goes to show that. If I were the prosecutor, I'd introduce that, but I wouldn't try to do much with it.

Although your argument about Scott's contacting Amber is logical - I disagree with the premise. You are assuming that he is "rational" and would have understood that, as the husband, he would be under suspicion. Scott probably has an inflated (maybe even grandiose) view of himself. He likely believed (and perhaps still does) that he is so much smarter than the police that there's no way he could be a suspect, let along get caught. Not to mention the fact that everyone (friends and family) know how "wonderful" he is and, therefore, they would knock themselves out defending and supporting him. I certainly agree that the calling is audacious and makes no sense from our perspectives. From Scott's perspective, however, it may make perfect sense.
