Show me your source for this statement, please. I live here, and as fas as we have been told, the Indians are a "Soverign Nation" and they pay no income taxes, property taxes, building permits, follow zoning or building codes, etc, etc, etc. They are trying to get a complete exemption on sales taxes on retail sales on their land. If that goes thru- the 9 man Board of Equalization, not the voters- then I can see instant Wal-Marts and Home Depots on each end of their casinos. Haven't been able to pin down yet if they have to follow labor laws about minimum wage, etc, or OSHA stuff. They are being very arrogant about what they "Owe" the local area for the costs of fire, police, etc.
I know there was a large concert in So Cal outside of Palm Springs within the last 2 years. There were multiple fights, stabbings, etc tied to the concert, and the roads were shut down with random cars parked everywhere. The Indian tribe who held the concert claimed they weren't responsible and wouldn't reimburse the county a dime for the costs of trying to quell the near riot that happened when the ambulance and police couldn't get thru.
When they(the Indians) asked the voters to pass Prop 2 a few years back, they led us to believe that they wanted small casinos back in the hills on their already owned property. Since then, they are secretly buying property all over, claiming them as "heritage" lands, and building huge casinos overnight. Told Placer County planning department and Supervisors they would have 3000 "car trips" a day(24 hours open) and then built a parking lot that holds more than 5000 cars. What's wrong with that math?
Bottom line: THEY LIE!! Or should I say they speak with forked toungue?

Nevada gaming has some level of oversight, as well as mandatory payoff levels and specific reporting. Indian gaming does not have nearly the same level of scrutiny as gaming in Nevada, Atlantic City or the Midwest/Southern boats.

This is why serious gamblers don't go to Indian casinos - it is a bigger ripoff.

MYTH: INDIAN PEOPLE DO NOT PAY TAXES.

FACT: INDIAN PEOPLE PAY ALL TAXES REQUIRED BY STATE AND FEDERAL LAW.

All Indian people pay federal income, FICA and social security taxes. Most Indians also pay state income and property taxes. Only the small percentage of Indians who live and work on federally recognized reservations - not unlike soldiers and their families living on military installations - are exempt from paying state income and property taxes. However, they still pay taxes such as sales and Federal Income tax.

Indian tribes are governments with responsibilities to their citizens, but tribes almost uniformly lack a tax base to support their governmental needs. Some tribes have found in gaming a means to not only provide jobs and economic activity on their reservations, but also a source of badly needed government revenue. As sovereign governments, tribes do not have to pay taxes on their revenues to any other governments. Do states pay taxes on their resources derived from gaming or from any other source? NO!

A tribal casino pays more state taxes to California than a Nevada casino.

Actually, they pay the same amount: $0.

"According to the National Indian Gaming Commission, Tribal government gaming operations generated 12.7 billion-dollars in revenue in 2001. Tribal government gaming creates jobs, increases economic activity and generates tax revenue both on and off the reservation. Consider the following: in San Diego county alone, tribal gaming has been responsible for the creation of more than 5,000 well-paying jobs, with a payroll of $44 million per year (and the associated payroll taxes and employee income taxes)."

That RF Kennedy Jr.?

Davis' Bid for Tribal Funds 'Ludicrous'
Indian leader assails the governor's desire for an additional $1.5 billion a year in gaming revenue.

By Gregg Jones, Times Staff Writer

SACRAMENTO -- A prominent Indian leader on Wednesday dismissed as a "ludicrous proposition" Gov. Gray Davis' desire to collect an additional $1.5 billion a year in gambling revenue from California tribes, and said most tribes would be content to live with their existing 20-year agreements with the state.

Once again, Arnold takes the same path as Davis.

TMDLs are the biggest scam foisted on America in perhaps its entire history.

When these thugs get control of the food supply, OPEC will like like amateurs.

Arnold is only running for Governor so his aides can get jobs?

More meaningless tripe from the house organ of the Busta-MEChA campaign.

His campaign strategist Bonnie Reiss is a Democrat working for Nevada casionos and Arnold has begun parroting the Davis line about taking more money from the tribes.

Coincidence.

Hell just froze over!
Here I am agreeing with Roscoe?!@

Indian Casinos are the only industry keeping the rural counties afloat.

Without them, there would be no employment in Butte and many other rural counties.

The gamblers who visit the casinos also spend money with other local businesses.

The casinos also support local schools. Their programs to help Indian kids are also given to non Indian kids.

More than one school here in Butte County would have to close if it weren't for the Indian casinos.

And McClintock is in the pocket of the Indian Tribes, right next to Bustamante. Why should the Indina Casinos get a free ride?

Are the Nevada casino's bankrolling Arnold's campaign?

Schwarzenegger is running radio ads claiming that he won't accept Indian money but that McClintock, Bustamante, and Davis have accepted their money.

The problem is, Schwarzenegger accepted Indian money last year in his Prop 49 campaign.

Indian Tribes

The California Republican Party overwhelmingly endorsed tribal gaming, and the current agreement between the state and the tribes was negotiated according to federal guidelines signed into law by Ronald Reagan
