ABC WIRE SERVICE:

Today Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton announced that she has discovered that her great great great uncle's nephew's first cousin's brother Franks sister's great grandfather was a member of the Sioux nation.

"I have changed my name to Hillary Rodham Clinton Poopie Tailfeathers" announced HRCPT. The former Mrs. Rodham Clinton then announced a new political action committee called "Hillary's Big Tailfeathers" which has begun to solicit millions in donations from her "red brothers and sisters" all over America. "Oh, none of the money can be tracked or taxed" said HRCPT's new lawyer "Joe Sun's In Your Eyes".

CA State originally touted the lottery revenues as "helping the schools." The only ones who were helped were the Ad men who got a major portion of the Lottery budget for commercials, the politically-appointed Lottery officials and workers who garner huge salaries and maybe a few programs that were never impacted by what was left over. The state barely shares the lottery revenue with non-Indian citizens, why would they share it with the Indians?

The lottery--CA and otherwise--was another scam. Since I am not mathematically-challenged and don't believe in the magic of "luck," I don't waste my money on it.

Funny, I didn't see Arnold calling for a reform of the California lottery or for the state to get a larger share of lottery revenues.

Gray Davis entered into the first gaming compacts with the Indian tribes in 1999. He excluded revenue sharing at that time, probably in an effort to pander to the tribes and gain future monetary support himself from the tribes. The fact that he is trying to renegotiate now is hypocritical. Arnold trying to fix this, just as he will try to renegotiate the power contracts Davis signed, is not.

Davis' Bid for Tribal Funds 'Ludicrous'
Indian leader assails the governor's desire for an additional $1.5 billion a year in gaming revenue.
By Gregg Jones, Times Staff Writer

SACRAMENTO -- A prominent Indian leader on Wednesday dismissed as a "ludicrous proposition" Gov. Gray Davis' desire to collect an additional $1.5 billion a year in gambling revenue from California tribes, and said most tribes would be content to live with their existing 20-year agreements with the state.

Arnold just entered this race 2 months ago

He entered politics earlier. His campaign for Prop 49 last year accepted Indian money. If it's bad now, why wasn't it bad then?

It's perfectly acceptable to receive contributions or advice from anybody, provided it's done within the law with full disclosure. A candidate can decide whether or not to accept the advice or return any favors, but he doesn't have to do anything wrong. We voters can examine a candidate's record to decide whether the money will corrupt them.

Davis' past pay-to-play politics indicate that any Indian money would probably pave the way for favors in the future. Bustamante is the same as Davis. They are guaranteed to be corrupted by political money.

McClintock follows his principles, so the Indians may later realize it's not worth their money to donate to him in the future; his commitment to principles discourages big-money donors from contributing to him, although his small-government and freedom ideals are a good match with the Indians. Schwarzenegger has little history, but there's no guarantee that he'll give any favors to the gaming interests, either. These two candidates are much less likely to be corrupted by political money.

It's a scam as far as supporting the schools or whatever, but the CA lottery has been far more successful in getting revenue for the state than the Arkansas "tax-me-more" fund has gotten for them. Most people probably wouldn't pay that voluntary tax.

Davis always wants to renegotiate contracts when he wants more money. Unfortunately, if Davis is upset with his/our side of the bargain, the other side is usually quite content to stick with the terms of the contract.

Unless Davis can dissolve the contract by finding a technical illegality or something, there's not much he can do to improve the situation.

Like many CA citizens who naively voted for CA Prop 1A in good faith, I'm sure that Ronald Reagan (a man among men, as well as Presidents) had no idea how many subsequent laws and precedents (giving these "newly-formed" Indian nations on "newly-formed" Reservations plunked down in urban/suburban centers more rights and loopholes than non-Indian citizens living within these communities) would occur.

Go to the CERA website. It details what has happened since Reagan. You're in for a shock. Unless, of course, you think that non-Indians deserve to have their Constitutional rights taken away because of what was done to the Indians more than 150 years ago. There are a lot of people who justify Indian Gaming using that as an example.

Are you also for African-American Reparations? Jesse
Jackson's people are working with some Indian tribes trying to figure this one out. Jackson used to be against gambling, calling it the "poor man's tax." Yet some of his Rainbow Coalition members now believe that African Americans should be able to run casinos in urban centers and have the same types of benefits and exemptions as do the Native Americans because of slavery.

Where will it end? When will it saturate itself? Who are these poor, ignorant souls who gamble and believe that the odds favor them and not the house? The ABC's of gambling are: Addiction. Bankruptcy. Crime. These are all known factors that occur when a casino enters a community. The negative effects of casino gambling far outweigh the benefits unless one doesn't mind money being made off of the weakness, greed and power-driven nature of other human beings.

It's heart-breaking. Not only for my part Native American heritage--of which I am very proud of--but for the average citizen who gets sucked into the lure of "easy money" and winds up costing the taxpayer more when all is said and done.

Well, the Lottery doesn't physically affect my water, sewage, traffic, land use and quality of life issues, so, if someone gets a thrill out of buying a scratcher, I say let 'em.

But a Las Vegas-style Indian gambling casino affects all of the above...and then some since it it not subject to the laws, regulations and taxes that, say, the Lottery and a casino in Vegas or Atlantic City would be subject to.

What if Mexico set up huge casinos and red-light districts in Tijuana and other towns just across the border? Mexico would get all the earnings, but we'd still have to maintain the roads and deal with any associated crime (and increased health care costs).

Indian gaming is already pretty bad. The Indians are starting to buy plots of land in suburban communities and declaring such land their "reservation"... and then building casinos right on top of them. There's one such example right outside of Sacramento right now.

Do you have more info on that... I would like to see that run by Tom's office

While they have agreed to local revenue sharing according to the article, they haven't yet recieved the needed permits to move forward. As I understand the process, they would need, in addition to a state agreement, approval from the National Indian Gaming Commission and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
