Memphis police and FBI officials announced Tuesday morning the indictment of 12 people and the seizure of more than $1 million in cash following a yearlong investigation into theft of drugs and other valuables from the police departments property and evidence room.
Those indicted include some civilian employees of the police department, according to an announcement by Michael J. Folmar, acting special agent in charge of the Memphis FBI office, and police Director James Bolden.
The joint investigation began at the request of the Memphis police and included the Drug Enforcement Administration and the IRS Criminal Investigative Division.
The 12 people indicted face charges of drug trafficking, conspiracy, firearm violations and structuring violations.
A number of people were arrested Tuesday, including some police civilian employees. Approximately 27 search warrants were executed Tuesday in Memphis, Atlanta and the Northern Mississippi area.
In addition to the cash, agents seized several cars and homes purchased with proceeds from illegal activities, according to the FBI.
Assisting with the arrests and searches were the Marshals Service, the Shelby County Sheriffs Office, the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Additional arrests and seizures are expected as the investigation continues, according to the FBI.

Yes, evidently. Has been since the mid-thirties.
The War On Some Drugs is the only reason that drugs are "valuables." Relegalize drugs and they are relegated to their natural status as produce.
