WASHINGTON (AP) -- The AFL-CIO has again postponed a meeting to consider endorsing a presidential candidate, a blow to Democratic hopeful Dick Gephardt who is counting on strong union support to boost his sagging campaign.
AFL-CIO President John Sweeney had said he would hold a mid-October meeting to consider Gephardt, but only if there were sufficient support from about two-thirds of the federation's 13 million members. The former House minority leader, with the strongest support among labor groups, was seen as the most likely candidate for a rare endorsement in the primary race.

Why? Two words:
George Soros.
Google "Soros Afl-CIO"
Google "soros Sweeney"
Here's an example.

"Making a major foray into partisan politics, New York multibillionaire George Soros is committing $10 million to a new Democratic-leaning group aimed at spending $75 million to defeat President Bush next year.
Mr. Soros is the main financial backer of a new organization called America Coming Together, which has tapped political veterans from labor unions and liberal political action committees to energize voters in key swing states to support the Democratic nominee for president.
"What we're going to try to do is build a very large infrastructure," said Steve Rosenthal, chief executive officer of ACT and former political director for the AFL-CIO. "We modeled this after the program we used at the AFL-CIO, where we found that repeated communication with union members made a difference in how people voted."
ACT has received commitments of $12 million from other philanthropists and $8 million from unions for a total of $30 million in seed money. That extraordinary amount of cash will be needed to get a new organization operational and effective with only 15 months to go before the presidential election.
It has little to do with Gephardt himself. He's probably relatively honest, and that's his failing. The Demos are morphing into a corporate-left shill, without shame.
Clark's their man.
Yep.
BTW, I could be wrong, but I smell goulash. :)
"America Comes Together" is the political action committee of "America Votes" - founded by Sweeney, funded by Soros.
Gephardt is toast. The AFL-CIO recommendation will be "given" to Clark, unless Clark blows it big time soon in the media.
Acxiom, Clark, Soros, Stephens are big winners.
Is it possible for a West Point graduate to stoop that low?
Imagine an ego-driven general with a score to settle.
West Point was a long time ago...
