North Korea says it is using plutonium to make bombs
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- North Korea said Thursday it has completed reprocessing its 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods and is using plutonium extracted from them to make atomic bombs.
"The (North) successfully finished the reprocessing of some 8,000 spent fuel rods," a spokesman for North Korea's Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by the North's official news agency, KCNA.

I would like to take a moment to ask for donations.
It should be clear to all conservatives by now that the left intends to demonize us. They don't just disagree with us, they hate us. And worse, they want to get other people to hate us.
Places like Free Republic drive the left batty.
Please donate. Thanks for your consideration.

Accusing the United States of taking a "hostile policy" toward the North, the statement said that North Korea "made a switchover in the use of plutonium churned out by reprocessing spent fuel rods in the direction increasing its nuclear deterrent force." North Korea also said it will reprocess more spent fuel rods to be produced from the small reactor in its main nuclear complex in Yongbyon, north of Pyongyang.

Reagan would say "The bombing starts in five minutes." And mean it.
Time for Kim Il Jong to join his daddy. Then maybe a whole generation of starving NK children would have a chance at life.

I wonder why, Korea would be telling us this information? I think they are scared that they will be the next one to be invaded. If North Korea had any logic, they would know that Russia, and China, don't wish to have a war at its borders. They would also realize that the USA could care less about them. They are like a bad child that begs for attention or a spanking. Maybe they would like a time out.
The region is heating up. The United States will spend $11 billion for its upgrade of its armed forces in South Korea, including the installation of a new state-of-the-art Patriot missile-defense system. It also spearheaded a multinational military exercise this month to practice intercepting North Korean ships at sea.

Boy, this has been a most interesting news day at FR...it reminds me of Election 2000 for some reason, with the controversy (Rush's resignation), anticipation (waiting for confirmation on the Kuwait intercepting biological weapons story), mudslinging (Arnold groping, Rush popping pills), and now this story, a story which encapsulates WHY the 2000 Election outcome was so important to the nation.

AP continued -
Earlier this week, North Korea claimed that it was taking "practical measures" to boost its nuclear weapons program as a deterrent against what it calls a U.S. plan to invade. The claim came as some U.S. intelligence analysts are becoming increasingly concerned that the communist regime may have three, four or even six nuclear weapons instead of the one or two the CIA had estimated.
New atomic bombs would give Pyongyang more authority at the negotiating table, and may allow it to part with one, either in a test or by selling it, experts say.
The United States and its allies are trying to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear programs. The North says it will do so only if the United States signs a nonaggression treaty, provides economic aid and opens diplomatic ties.
The nuclear dispute flared in October 2002 when U.S. officials said North Korea admitted running a secret nuclear weapons program in violation of international agreements.

I think a good way of getting their attention would be to have a B2 drop five or six bright orange GPS-guided paint bombs right onto the reactor building and snap a few high-resolution color photos to bring to the U.N.

Next time we go to the table with North Korea we make no verbal statements. We should just give wedgies to every one of their delegates and send them back out the door.

North Korea says it has processed all of its 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods and is using plutonium to make bombs. The President should take them at their word and launch a first strike.
To: Finalapproach29er
What are we waiting for? What will it take? Can anybody answer me?Given the partisanship by the opposition Democrats it will probably take a nuclear repeat of September 11th although I hope that President Bush launches a first strike instead.
To: ChiefKujo
(It was someone else's idea) Just drop a small nuke or even a large conventional bomb on the facilities. Then say, "Did you guys have an accident?"
I doubt that anyone who could prove different, would.

It's a provocation.
We say so and obliterate "North Korea" from all map usage, and replace it with "Korea" as one nation under a representative republic government.

Yes.
I get that impression as well.
The behavior, the remarks from both are almost identical at times.
I'd say that the left is treasonously working against the Commander in Chief because he's got more guts and brains than they figured, all without 'their' permission.
The anti-American comments coming from the left are quite telling.
Especially when coupled with the praise they give for terrorists and murderers.

8000 pluto. rods finished production.
the 'red line' has been crossed.
japanese authorities (today) are issuing statements to the japanese people not to worry or panic about pyongyang.
can anyone imagine inaction by Bush administration if Saddam finished nuke weapon production and had intermediate/long range-range solid rocket, Taepodong type ICBMs and Rodong missiles in hidden areas ready to go with it?
this is ludicrous.
what a friggin mess.
it's spelled: 'nuclear blackmail". we are just sitting out their with our ________ swinging in the win.by christmas the north koreans should have 6-8 nuclear weapons.
merry christmas.
