All right, so a couple "major" polls show the famous thick-necked slab of Austrian meat wielding a dangerous Conan-like lead over quivering not-as-bad-as-you-think Gray Davis.

And Schwarzenegger's bouncing around like a Hummer on meth, inflicting that weird maniacal grin and massive blocklike head all over the unsuspecting media, as pretty much the entire population of even slightly aware and intelligent people in California and in fact all over the nation go, oh holy Christ, please dear God no.

Morford is pissed Arnold is going to win. What is intersting abotu this column is something that I never noticed before. If you read the randomness of Morford's Bushco bashing and the random snide comments that seem so out there, you understand Morford is completely devoid of any substance. I knew Morofrd is a loon, but this one is clear in the random I-have-nothing-but-hate style of reading that dominates his rants.

Sorry... have to nitpick a little bit...

The recession started in the first quarter of 2000, was exacerbated by two unprecedented events, and has been over for two quarters.

The stock market headed south at the end of the first quarter of 2000. The economy entered recession one year later in March of 2001 (recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth in the economy). Things were beginning to look a little better by the end of the summer (it really was a mild recession) until we were hit on 9/11. However, in the fourth quarter of 2001, the economy grew by an annualized rate of 5.6%... and we haven't stopped growing since (albeit at varying rates).

The market has taken a pounding over the past three years with the bursting of the tech bubble, the election fiaco, terrorism, corporate scandals and war but the economy itself has trundled along pretty well underneath.

I know many people have been personally affected. However, in real terms, the economy only retooled. It shifted from certain overinflated areas to other areas and has continued along. It happens periodically. It's good for us in the long-term even if it stinks on a personal level for the short-term. The unemployment numbers remain low from an historical perspective.

Miss Morford is really hysterical and off her pace today - no talk of homosexual sex, enemas or ecstasy sex parties. Just pure gloom and doom. I guess that means Arnold will win.

I suppose if she is that dissatisfied with Kalifornia, she should move someplace else.

On second thought, in deference to the rest of us that's a bad idea. She should stay and shriek it out along with the rest of the bath house crowd, imagining in their nightmares the religious bogeyman is going to come and upset their party and make them start acting like normal, mature people.
