Bin Laden bomb video circulating in the UK
The Observer (UK) ^ | October 5, 2003 | Jason Burke, chief reporter

Posted on 10/04/2003 7:10:07 PM PDT by aculeus

A chilling video featuring advice on how to make bombs and calls to holy war from Osama bin Laden is circulating among radical British Muslims.

The video, which has been viewed by The Observer, includes a 20-second sequence during which a masked man shows how a detonator can be wired together. The man then gives instructions in Arabic on the construction of a bomb. The next sequence shows an exploding bomb in a building, apparently somewhere in Afghanistan, and footage of masked militants in what seems to be an al-Qaeda training camp.

The bomb-making pictures have been taken from a second video, also circulating in Britain, which features demonstrations of terrorist and military techniques.

The existence of the videos, which are thought to have been made and copied in the UK, will worry security services. Senior policemen said they were more concerned about the threat posed by a 'home-grown' militant than that from a terrorist from abroad.

'We are relatively confident that we are on top of any foreigners who want to come here and attack us. The problem is how do we spot the locals who get sucked into radical militancy,' one said. Richard Reid, the so-called 'shoe bomber', is the best-known of a series of British citizens to become involved with terrorism. Earlier this year two British nationals were killed in Israel after travelling there to commit suicide bomb attacks.

Both the Prime Minister and Sir John Stevens, the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Britain's most senior officer, have said that a terrorist attack is 'inevitable'.

The existence of the video will raise fears that radical Muslim ideologies, though still limited to a tiny minority of Britain's Muslim population, are gaining strength. In much of the Islamic world the invasion of Iraq has increased support for extremists and it is feared that it may have radicalised Muslims in the UK too.

Notice the spin....

In much of the Islamic world the invasion of Iraq has increased support for extremists and it is feared that it may have radicalised Muslims in the UK too

Yeah, right.

So, it is audio of OBL. Meaning this is dated and, actually, who knows how long it has been circulating.

Maybe the pendelum will begin to swing and people will begin to understand the fear that lead to the internment of the Japanese during WW11.

Mind you, I am not excusing the action, but perhaps there were reasons other than racism for what happened. Without incarcerating all the Muslims, we can racial profile and do things to reduce risk. That profile is growing, though, since the latest suicide terrorist was female.

What explosive do they use?

Seems they would have to start with a high explosive like C4 or TNT (since they mention wiring up the detonator). So they would have to be supplied by fellow terrorists willing to smuggle in quantities of C4/TNT and detonators/blasting caps.

So they already have to have a terrorist network in place in order to supply the explosive materials to build the bombs with.

I just had a thought... This is in the U.K. As I seem to recall, they have in recent times outlawed private citizens having guns... So why don't they outlaw explosives / bombs also? Problem solved...

Nice to see that their training material is still several levels below what the average American 15 year old with too much time on his hands can already do. As pathetic as they are, their incompetence is rivaled only by our own CIA, who's idea of security is to confirm the name of one of their "agents," to a reporter, but ask him (pretty please) not to publish it.

Well - 'tet68' - I am sure you know the game ... the terrorists and their implicit enablers are making this Iraq situation out to be a 'quagmire'. maybe they remember that tet 68 was really a military defeat for the Vietcong, but was reinvented by the US media as a defeat for the US.

Anything to shake our willpower advances the aims of the terrorists. Liberating Iraq was a good thing for the Arab people of Iraq and so should be welcomed by all Arabs. If it is anyone's fault that more Arabs dont support it, the fault lies not with us, but with those who hate us, hate freedom and democracy, and hate American power.

Unless these fiends are brought to heel, it could be "open season" on them all.

That would be the position of Hitlery!, McAuliffe, and "The Bent One Emeritus". Of course, the thought of protecting the USA would never occur to them. May they all choke to death on chicken bones.
