The Republican Party's Lack of Commitment To Conservatism
Covenant News ^ | 10/4/03 | Chuck Baldwin

Posted on 10/05/2003 3:18:56 PM PDT by truthandlife

If there is anyone left who truly believes the Republican Party is committed to genuine conservative principles, the candidacy of bodybuilder/actor Arnold Schwarzenegger to be California's next governor should be enough to set the record straight.

Despite Schwarzenegger's extreme liberal views, he has won praise from Republicans nationwide. On virtually every issue worth noting, Schwarzenegger comes down on the left side of the page.

Schwarzenegger is pro-abortion, pro-homosexual rights, pro-gun control, pro-green, and pro-illegal immigration. He even said that Clinton's impeachment made him "ashamed" to call himself a Republican.

Furthermore, Schwarzenegger's immoral escapades make even Bill Clinton look unsoiled. He once bragged in an Oui magazine interview about participating in sex orgies, not to mention his repeated admissions of drug use.

In spite of his personal and philosophical discrepancies, Schwarzenegger has received accolades from notable conservatives such as Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Pat Robertson, not to mention practically the entire national Republican hierarchy.

Writing for The New York Times, Frank Rich correctly observed, "It is hilarious to watch conservatives, the same conservatives who often decry phony Hollywood liberals and their followers, betray their own inviolate principles to bask in Arnold's hulking movie-star aura so that they might possibly gain a nominal Republican victory in the bargain."

By supporting a liberal such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republicans demonstrate that they have no real loyalty to conservative principles. Beyond that, by supporting Schwarzenegger, they have turned their backs on a true conservative gubernatorial candidate, Tom McClintock.

However, people who are paying attention know that this is the rule, not the exception, for the Republican Party. In race after race, Republican heavyweights will throw their support behind a liberal candidate and will starve out a conservative candidate. This is not an accident or a coincidence. It is the party's plan A. The Republican Party no more desires conservatives in political office than the Democratic Party does, and people who think otherwise are only deceiving themselves.

At some point, conservatives must awaken to the reality that they do not have a political party in Washington, D.C., that represents them. They must, at some point, be willing to abandon the Republican Party and unite around a party and a candidate that will courageously and consistently promote their principles. Can I get a second for Judge Roy Moore and the Constitution Party?

I agree with your sentiments.

Please, tell me more about the Constitution Party.

Who is Judge Moore, is he the judge in the 10 Suggestions Case?

So, congratulations, the Rs now have the moral equivalent of Clinton on the cusp of being "elected" to the governorship of the 5th largest economic power in the world.

This is why representative democracy is being usurped by corporate representitivism. Politics is such BS.

You woke me up!

Imagine ANY argument that you have to make where you'd quote Frank Rich...........LOL

Conservative Paper of Record Backs Arnold

"We understand why principled conservative Californians would consider voting for state Sen. Tom McClintock -who is a solid, experienced and admirable conservative across a broader range of conservative concerns. But,
in elections, it is the results that matter. Somebody will be sitting in the governor's chair after the election, raising or lowering taxes, cutting or
not cutting budgets.

"Assuming the recall wins, there is no plausible view of the current state of public opinion that would put Mr. McClintock in that chair. It will be occupied by either Mr. Schwarzenegger or Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante. While a principled vote for a candidate with whom you agree is always a civically virtuous act, we are convinced that sensible, conservative policies are more
likely to become law if Mr. Schwarzenegger wins the election, and restores a platform from which traditional conservative voices can be heard."

The Constimatooshin Party is an oddball collection of cantankerous cranks, and if you review their platform closely, you'll realize that it is pretty much the official party of those KKK members who can still vote (or have at least had their civil rights restored after felony convictions).

I guess I've been around here for about 6 years or so now. Time sure flies!

When Jim Robinson started this site, it was because he was fed up with the liberal media, and how they would not let people worldwide know about the corruption of the Clinton Administration. A few of us, equally concerned, (with great luck) found it fast.

In the early days, FR was a day-to-day operation, always on the brink of bankruptcy. Jim kept on, and we chipped in when it became too much. We knew how important this site was, and is. Sometimes, it came down to the wire, and we wrote checks, and sent them in, as best we could.

Look at it now. We all get our best information from this site. It is huge, with thousands of posters, and millions of readers. Yet Jim still keeps it alive because of his conviction, and he is absolutely NOT making a profit on it. He just believes. As do we.

BTW, did you know that the founder of this site is in a wheelchair (sorry Jim; I know you think it doesn't make a r*ts a$$ difference. Hey, some folks out there need to come down a peg, like I have.).

Think of it! In the darkest days of the Clinton Administration, there was a lone internet site where people with integrity, brains, and sheer gumption could discuss the dangers faced by the US. Not on CNN, for sure.

Earthmovers like Drudge, Ann Coulter, Rush, WFBuckley, his brother, Savage, Buchanan, both houses of Congress (many) check in to see what we think.

The opposition checks it out, too. Like the NY times staff, CNN, AFL-CIO, China, etc. Trust me, they all come here to read. Even YOUR post. You know by now how they are whining about Rush? We're next, as soon as they figure out how they can trash this site without it getting a million hits.

I've been broke; I've been not broke. I've slept in my car. I know how it feels to be squeezed tight with bills. Folks with giant bills: You're not alone, and you have friends here. :)

If you love this site as much as I do, please, please sign up for automatic payment of just $3 per month. Don't be embarrassed if you think this is too little. It absolutely is not. You $3 a month folks are our grassroots movement heroes. Be proud. Become one of the thousand points of light here, and you will so feel proud every month. We'll thank you for it, and are so glad to have you on board.

I know things are rough out there. But you are tough, and a member of the greatest grassroots freedom movement in 100 years. Together we are making history, and will change the world, as we already have. The best is yet to come.

Most countries out there would consider this website illegal. They hate us, for our freedom. Their systems cannot stand, in the face of Freedom. The people there read us when they can, when they are “allowed” to, and are not being tortured. They flock to us, America, because they want to be free. Help us help them.

Would you please, please consider signing up for just $3 a month? Please? That’s all it takes, really, believe it or not. You will make a world of difference, to, well, the world. Be proud, Americans, and please help out!

It's obvious that Chuck Baldwin and the Constitution Party don't consider being a Fiscal Conservative a critical issue. Let the single issue zealots go form their own party, we don't need them.

When they are gone the GOP will gain more than enough moderate voters from the Democrats to replace the Religous Zealots .

The Republican party is not conservative in the sense you are used to using. That is the way it is.

Unfortunately, within the existing one man one vote system, there is no way a limited government, based on the Contitution of 1789 as the Founders understood it, is possible. As Alexander Hamilton pointed out, the Constitution is flawed because the people will not defend it. Hamilton has been proved correct in this again and again. What exists is what exists; there is no use crying over spilled milk.

Thanks for at least being honest. I will tell you right now that the Republican Party will be in big trouble if they decide to reject Christian conservatives. I know you don't like to hear this but some six out of seven voting-age Americans are Christians. What makes evangelical Christians so powerful, Pew found, was their consistency on the issues. "The fact that this group expresses a consistent set of conservative political attitudes and is extremely active politically makes evangelicals Christians a powerful voting bloc,They're more apt to vote than other groups. With priorities going beyond core moral concerns over abortion and homosexuality, two-thirds of self-proclaimed religious conservatives are likely to vote, versus roughly half of all Americans. This is a very powerful bloc and if people like you say we can get these votes from moderates, think again.

Its kind of gratifying to be able to tell Ahmanson along with his co-conspirator Viguerie to go take a hike, and to quit manipulating the GOP to their ends.
