California dreamin': Ahnold cannot fix Golden State's mess
Manchester Union Leader ^ | October 6, 2003 | Editorial

CALIFORNIA holds an election tomorrow to decide whether to recall Gov. Gray Davis. On Wednesday we will be a little glad and a little sad that it's all over. The entry into the race of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gary Coleman and others who have given little thought to serious policy issues and have no business being governor of a state, especially a state that is larger than many nations, has made the race a spectacle worthy of promotion by P.T. Barnum.

But when you get right down to it, the question is a terribly serious one: Who will govern the state of California?

Serious questions require serious answers, and throughout this race the only consistently serious candidate has been state Sen. Tom McClintock. Here is a man who knows about which he speaks, and whose proposed solutions to California's self-imposed crises would actually work.

Californians have spurned serious politicians for years in favor of clowns who promise everything but are capable of delivering nothing. Well, not quite nothing. What they have delivered is fiscal ruin.

We will see tomorrow whether Californians have learned their lesson or whether they continue to fall for the empty promises of charlatans.

No, California deserves McClintock! The solution to their mess is as clear as the noses on their faces. Vote for McClintock and California can return to its glory.

A vote for RINOLD assures the ongoing destruction of junk-science environmental laws, higher taxes, lawless illegal immigration, and businesses and white flight leaving in droves.

We need two new people in Sacramento - one to figure and fix out the mess (McClintock) and one to throw people through windows (Arnold). Dealing effectively with the Senate/Assembly will be difficult. Good cop/Bad cop is the approach, but the bad cop needs to be top dog.

A vote for McClintock, because he cannot win, is a vote for DAVIS / Cruz and the same road to destruction.

I propose Arnold hire McClintock to manage the Reconstruction.

I propose Arnold hire McClintock to manage the Reconstruction.

Judging by his less-than-stellar performance during the campaign so far (with well-publicized incidents such as Checkboxgate, Wampumgate, and Pizza and Saladgate), I wouldn't trust McClintock to manage a Koolaid stand in the middle of Death Valley.

Considering Arnold's attendence at one of the Lay/Enron conferences I think this is more about fixing Enrons problem, not the Golden State's.

Puhleeeeaaaaazzzzzzeeeee!!!! What a pantload of crapola. To lump Arnold in with Gary Coleman is as dishonest a slumping Gray Davis in with the stripper.

If the paper wants to endorse McClintock, I think they could find a better argument for doing so simply implying that Arnold and Gary are equivalent candidates.

This "endorsement" is so bad, even McClintock should ignore it.

Unfortunately, regardless of who wins, they're still going to have to deal with a RAT California Legislature, let us not forget that important fact! We may be cutting off the head, but the beast will still reside, entrenched in Sacramento.I've been waiting to say that for a while. And Vote For Tom McClintock!

gimme a break, this paper is from NH not cali - maybe McClintock can win in NH, but in Cali, not a snowball chance in hell.

Maybe cali voters can give McC a ticket to NH and run for office there. LOL

"maybe McClintock can win in NH, but in Cali..."

That's alright. We'll take him.

California doesn't deserve him.

Besides, he'd probably fit right in here with that Free-Stater crowd.

Arnold will be way too busy fending off lawsuits from past behavior. It will now be safe for the Taliban to move into California, because the Governor will be too busy fending off recall, impeachment, and hungry trial lawyers.

R-nulled may have to bomb a condom factory in Oakland or something, to divert attention from the scandals.
