I had already turned in my equipment and was waiting on them. The lift wouldn't let me ride up feet only. Another skier came down and asked if I had two young girls with me and explained to me that they were panicked and sitting it out two lifts up so I started trudging up the slope...all 1.5 miles and 1800 vertical of it in my Georgia boots...I bet I sweated off 10 pounds....I looked like Sasquatch by the time I found them. Ski Patrol kept stopping and telling me I had to get off the slope. I glared at them and they left me alone...lol

When I got there about ready for the defribrillators, the girls were just sitting on their butts weeping. I jury rigged the binding and told her to plow down to the bottom....I tried to slide on my ass most of the way down. After my heart rate got back down to the south side of 200, I felt pretty good and the girls were reassured that "not the mommy" had come to fetch them as was expected. That was one of those, it might kill me but I have no choice moves.

I also camped up there above the Animas creek on a summit and drank sheep feces infected water and got sick as a dog. I used to love the San Juans.

I had to do a short sprint back to my truck once up on top of Pikes Peak. I thought it was the big one . My chest clamped down on my ticker and scared me to death. God was telling me to pull my head out before I kilt myself from lack of Oxygen. Altitude will humble you quick even when your in shape.

Ever fly fish the Quality Waters below the Navajo Dam on the San Juan ? Great fishing ...right near the old church parking lot !

Wheeling, Flyfishing,hunting and sking in NM & CO region was the best ! Too bad they are going Meheca/Azatlan Socialist way........
