All of the exit polls are moot if they don't say, "by the way, did you figure out how to vote on Question #1: Recall or not?"

Aye -- and don't forget "boxers or briefs?" for the guys, and "bikini or thong" for the gals.

Coop's line on exit polls is something to behold ... keep a close eye on it.

Any plan to have a recall vote when the person in office gets 49% and so is kicked out but then the winner of the election only needs 34% is unfair, unjust to the electorate.

Nah, think of the Recall as the moral equivalent of Impeachment by the electorate. It's meant to happen fast so that the state won't be paralyzed. That's why there is no runoff. The voters understand this when they vote one way or the other on the recall.

I heard ealier on the radio that there have been 31 attempts in California to recall a governor. This is the first time a recall effort has even made it to the ballot

Looks fair to me.

Your mileage may vary.

(I agree with your reasoning on the state needing to bottom out before real change happens. Pretty hard on the grass, though...)

With that huge number of pages of ballot, and only a few choices, I think it very credible that people might miss Q#1. I suspect your experience is going to be quite common, unfortunately. I suspect it may well lead to the most credible legal action opposing the result of this election.

I'm quite concerned now, and as I posted somewhere above, no exit poll numbers will be worth a tinker's # without the knowledge as to whether a person actually reports that they DEFINITELY answered THAT question. The only way I can imagine they are able to definitively answer that is if they can state the precise way they voted on the propositions, too, and that they answered all three of those Yes-No questions.

Forget the exit polls, folks - they will be far more meaningless than usual. We're really going to have to wait for the count, and apparently that means until after 10AM tomorrow morning.

CNN is a traitor...that is a joke. Kelly Wallace was still running with the Hitler story this morning. Even the NY Times had corrected that one.

I find what has been going on in this election, a reason to thank our founding fathers for the system they set up. It proves the wisdom of holding primaries.

Um, actually, not.

Our founding fathers actually set up a "free for all" election system in the Constitution -- primaries of any sort were never mentioned.

It's the political *parties* (parties aren't mentioned in the Constitution either) who saw the "wisdom" of having a private "election" among themselves to decide who they were going to put forth as their single candidate for a given office, so as not to split votes.

There's nothing in the Constitution or anywhere else that would have stopped the California GOP from quickly setting up a pre-recall primary election for registered Republicans to vote on whether McClintock or Scharzeneggar would be the sole Republican candidate for the recall vote. And there's nothing in the Constitution or anywhere else that would stop the GOP from skipping primaries and putting up 2 or 20 candidates on any national election either.

Primaries are an intra-party tradition, not a Constitutionally instituted process.

The figures don't correlate with reports of non-existent to light turnout in Democratic areas and moderate to heavy turnout in Republican areas. Either all Republicans are voting "NO" to the recall and "NO" on Arnold or that's the exit poll from alternate universe California.

The good news is Arnold will have to run right if he hopes to be reelected 3 years from now. If he doesn't he'll be a one term wonder.

I like it.

If you want to fabricate your own standards for what makes a conservative and a Republican, have at it.

Well thank-you. I guess if I don't think exactly like you do, then I am not deserving to be a Republican or a conservative.

With an attitude like your, you do realize that you will drive people off in droves, but you will maintain your ideals. Maybe you should start your own exclusive party and let the rest of us get on with the business of electing more republicans and conservatives, cause your attitude sure won't get the job done.

Right after the commercial CNN is going to have both party chairmen on. Should be interesting. Also, Kelly Wallace a arnold campain headquarters says the campaign is optimistic, and talking about polls. Looks like good news. Watch the party talking heads for clues.

I don't mean to scare you, but here's some facts which will change your theory for the worse:

That is not scary. It is terrifying. And the Dems will be pumping it to the hilt tonight, along with a court order to keep the polls open longer. I hope Arnold does indeed have a double-digit lead...he is going to need every point.

OK, Coop ... your post clearly was not fair... by this time after your post, it is clear to see that there are too many FReepers who are so wrapped up in this election to see that your "Exit poll: Recall-no 57%, ... etc." post was a joke. Please don't repeat it. There are too many heart attacks going on out there now due to it.

Good one, though, I thought ... LOL

Which begs the questions we are not hearing from any of the Talk Show/News hosts to liberals who complain that this recall is "undemocratic, illegal, or wrong." The questions are:

"Did you sign or circulate recall petitions when they were circulated against Republican Governors?"
"Have you signed or circulated any recall petitions for any other public official?"
"Why did you not make these same critical comments when Reagan or Wilson faced recall threats?"
"Did you contribute to any recall efforts?"

Actually I think it would make for an interesting FOX News (or other) segment to follow up on previous recalls and who signed/circulated the petitions, not to mention who paid for professional signature gatherers.

Interesting how there's absolutely NOTHING on the State of California web page about the election today. But there is a nice picture of a smiling Gray Davis!
