NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A New Orleans company will be the exclusive U.S. maker of German armored vehicles built to withstand anti-tank mines and chemical attacks, and costing about $500,000 each.
Textron Marine & Land Systems signed a license agreement Monday in Washington with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann of Munich. The ceremony was held at the Association of the U.S. Army convention.
Like Humvees and Stryker armored personnel carriers, the German Dingos run on wheels rather than tracks. The Dingo is said to offer unparalleled protection from mines and roadside bombs for its class of armored vehicle.
It also can be repaired almost anywhere because its chassis is built by DaimlerChrysler and its engine by Mercedes, making parts easy to get, Textron and KMW say.
"You only have to look at the news to see the number of U.S. servicemen being killed in mine blasts," said Clay Moise II, vice president of Textron's Marine and Combat Vehicles. "The U.S. opportunities relative to armored vehicles has never been as rich as it is right now."
Textron has plenty of experience building armored vehicles. Customers in some three dozen countries use its light armored vehicles and Stingray II light tanks. The latest product to roll off its assembly line is the Peacekeeper II, an armored four-wheel drive vehicle designed for SWAT teams, riot control and first responders.

The DINGO All-Protected Vehicle (APV) is AT-mine protected and is proving its value in the German Army's peacekeeping missions inKosovo, FYROM, and - as shown here - Afghanistan.

Actually think the SA Hippo was a better designed vehicle, for what they are trying to do.

Looks like a cool vehicle. I'd rather be in one of these then a hummer.

A New Orleans company will be the exclusive U.S. maker of German armored vehicles built to withstand anti-tank mines and chemical attacks, and costing about $500,000 each. If the same plant made the same vehicle for the US with the exact same specs, it would run closer to $1,000,000 each....bank on it.....

Looks cool, and Made In America, even better...
Now why is it that we can't buy these for our boys.

The Cadillac Gage PeaceKeeper II armored vehicle employs the latest technology for missions such as law enforcement, riot control, counter-terrorism, SWAT operations, convoy protection or base security. With a top speed of 70 mph, PeaceKeeper II accommodates an eight-person team, while providing crew protection from 7.62mm AP. The compact profile is ideal for urban environments where excellent maneuverability is a necessity.
Textron owns Cadillac Gage. Cadillac Gage has been in the armored car business since Vietnam. They made the V-100. The Dingo looks like a fat Peacemaker to me.

Looks kinda like a Bufflo (sp?) used in Rodesia as a troop transport - very good at the job.
