Katie in Attack Mode - Questions Arnold's Leadership, Envisions "Havoc" and Grope Lawsuits
The Today Show

Posted on 10/08/2003 4:31:31 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

The morning after a historic election, it's traditional for the media to lead their coverage with an analysis of what led to the winning candidate's victory, and typically offer some softbal, warm and fuzzy interviews with the winning team.

But as far as The Today Show's Katie Couric is concerned, there's no time for a honeymoon, as she wasted no time in attack Arnold and painting a grim picture for his political future.

Couric's guest was CA Congressman and Arnold transition chairman David Dreier.

Again, the typical morning-after question would have been along the lines of "how does it feel?" or "how did Arnold do it?", or if you're looking to be a bit more substantive "what is Arnold's #1 priority?"

Instead, the first words out of Courics' mouth "polls show that 2/3 of the people feel Arnold didn't adequately explain his plans. What does that say about his leadership or his ability to communicate with the people?"

Next: "Arnold must present a budget by January 10th. How can he do it without cutting programs or raising taxes?"

And of course Katie hates the idea of letting taxpayers keep more of their money: "Wouldn't eliminating the recent tripling of the car tax wreak havoc?"

Next question: "When does he propose to address the groping allegations? Many of the women have retained high-powered lawyers. How concerned about lawsuits, how big a distratcion will that be?

I've also watched the Today show in the past to see the slant they put on the news, but not anymore. After they politicized much of the 2nd anniversary of 9/11, it made me sick. I refuse to watch it anymore.

Oh, btw, I heard Maria Shriver may not have a job at NBC anymore.

Katie's dismay at the prospect of the car tax being axed

As mentioned, Katie darkly envisioned that cutting the car tax would "wreak havoc." Yes, it's every liberal's worst nightmare - letting people hang on to their money and make their own decisions.

In the Big Momma/It Takes a Hillary to Wipe Your Nose liberal nirvana, people are too stupid and irresponsible to be left with much power or money. Better to keep them dumb, happy and dependent on government.

Katie had no such fears about her beloved Bill Clinton. If Arnold did any of these things it was as a private citizen. Bill on the other had did it as the Gov of Ark and the Prez of US. I guess I have my standards all screwed up since I see Katie as a demotroll.

I wish I could see an alternate universe where the Dem candidate won. And I could watch Katie ask her questions. I know they would be more friendly. I can’t wait to hear her say “Governor Schwarzenegger” with a smile!

Why is it that these wealthy liberal elitists do not quibble over tax increases that they can afford,...

Oh, but they do quibble...Remember what just happened up in WA a few weeks ago? The libs voting down their latte tax? Freaking hypocrits.

I wish Drier had asked her how the heck she thought lower income folks could afford that darn tax.

Fortunately, in just a few minutes I'll be heading out for a regular appearance on a local radio talk show (after a good shower!), where I do a regular "shtick" with a local Dem official. We made a dinner bet over the outcome of the recall, so this morning should be fun!

I cannot imagine why anyone still lives on the west coast... the taxes and general insanity out there would have me running for the hills. (I admit my bias... I have never lived west of the Mississippi.) :)

Really good question. For the life of me, I don't know why anyone watches television any more--now that we have F.R. Except Brit Hume. Now, he's my man!

I would pay to see the first time that Katie runs into her "friend" Maria Shriver at the NBC studios.

This could make the Miller Light Catfight look like a debate over tea. ;-)

In a related story:

Gallop shows forty-five percent of Americans believe the news media in this country are too liberal

It's amazing that the execs of these "news" shows don't see how they are driving their audience away.

Good points about Katie. That was one topic last night that vastly raised my opinion of Susan Estrich (from 0). She lectured Dems on their sleazy reports and said she was sickened by them; she said that the Dems needed to get over it and work with Arnold; and she said that she had defended Clinton against "far worse" charges than were levelled against Arnold.

For now, she is a rare thing like a unicorn--and honest Democrat.

Why is it that these wealthy liberal elitists do not quibble over tax increases that they can afford, when the typical middle-class American family is being squeezed from the right and the left, and pinching pennies?

Maybe it's that misery loves company. Even with her millions, Katie is not a happy camper these days. Bush is in the White House… Arnold is new Governor of California… Katie is not Queen of the Universe.

When you worship the god "More", you'll never have enough money, power, ego, et al… and you'll never be truly happy.

For the embittered Couric

How nice it is to see those words on the screen!!! Bet she uses sour pills when Republicans do well in elections. I am just glad I don't have a TV at work. I would have to turn it on, just to see the ole "Sour-Puss" face!!
