Can I be a charter member of this also?

Are they sure it wasn't one of those Speckled Burmese Bears that mauls a woman every few minutes on KSFO?

as he fired 11 times with a semi-automatic handgun before the animal fell, 12 feet away. Tell me it wasn't a 9mm.
Don't they usually advise that, if you going to carry a handgun in bear country, it be a minimum of 44 mag. or more?

I remember seeing this guy (I think it was him) on film a couple of years ago and being amazed at his ability to get right up close to bears.
Even tho he was killed, I still am amazed at his ability. It does teach a lesson that no matter how well you deal with them it can't change the fact that they are meat eaters and you are meat.

A self-taught bear enthusiast who once called Alaskas brown bears harmless was one of two people fatally mauled in a bear attack in the Katmai National Park and Preserve. I nominate this guy for "The Most Wrong Person of the Week" award. Do I hear a second?

Bear activist killed... I have no particular desire to become any sort of animal "activist," but if I did I think I would steer clear of lions and tigers and bears. In fact if there's a "lion activist" out there right now, I'd advise him to take the rest of the month off. You know how these things always happen in threes. |

Has anyone here seen the story about Roy (the magician) being mauled by one of his tigers?
Any animal that is larger than you and has sharp teeth and claws is dangerous. No matter how cute and fuzzy they look, they are dangerous.

Sounds like the poor guy was actually mentally ill. Some of these animal 'advocates' don't understand what "wild" means. Basically, stay away from them, but if you must go in their country, carry an adequately sized firearm and use it only as a last-ditch defense. I do a lot of backpacking in the Rockies and always carry a .44 Magnum revolver just for that purpose. I'll try everything else to avert an attack before shooting, but the sidearm is just common sense.
