Hello Carlo...

What I saw was the Bay Area was overwelmingly against the Recall, L.A. was slightly against it, but the common sense of the rest of us were overwelmingly for it...

Would it be too harse to put walls up around S.F. and L.A. with guard towers? You know to keep the liberals where we can keep our eyes on them...

But Arnold won, and the R next to his name has to mean something(even if it is short for rino).

The fact that the leftist slimes did everything they could to bring Arnold down, using every dirty trick, shows that they hate and fear him. If they hate and fear him, they must not own him. Maybe just because his actual views and how they will manifest are not known. Also, a lot of people who were formerly socially liberal changed when they got more informed.

Also, there's a point where a fiscal conservative and social liberal meet social conservatives: maintaining socially liberal platforms and programs COST LOTS OF MONEY!!

Hi Carlo -

I believe that Schwarzenegger's election as governor of California tells us that fiscally conservative/socially liberal isn't an oxymoron, and can win.

To be perfectly blunt, "socially liberal" means only a few things that some conservatives hate worse than poison:

1) The belief that, while abortion should not be a constitutional right, early/first trimester abortions should not be outlawed.

2) The belief that, while homosexuals should not have special rights, homosexual behavior between consenting adults should not be illegal.

3) The belief that, while not all so-called "recreational drugs" should be available without a physician's supervision for serious medical conditions, only, personal use of marijuana should be, at worst, decriminalized, and perhaps even legalized.

In other words, something kinda like libertarianism only far more mainstream.

I used to be a member of the Libertarian party, but the Libertarians I knew seriously argued crazy stuff: that the Second Amendment should apply to personal nuclear weapons; that all drugs, even cyanide, should be legalized; and that even the strange little creatures in the bottom of the ocean should be someone's private property!

So, I became a Republican.

However, here on Free Republic I've met Republicans who seriously argue that only Christians and Jews can be Republicans, not atheists and no other religion; that if you believe in evolution you can't be a Republican; that gay people can't be Republicans (in fact, should be burned at the stake or stoned to death) and so on and so forth. They'd rather see a Democrat elected than what they call a RINO.

Well, phooey on them. It's my party, and I won't let them decide who is and isn't a Republican. I'm in the main stream, and I won't be marginalized.

The official map show every county including in So. Ca. going for Arnold, with the exception of the SF Bay area! Who would ever have believed? Arnold, that's who!

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it." -Abraham Lincoln

Mr. Lincoln settled in the blood of over half a million Americans whether or not we have a right to seperate from Washington D.C. The Declaration of Indepedence was rendered a dead letter by the first Republican president.

Great post, Carlo. Thank you.

Carlo: The Republican Party, could do a whole lot worst than associate with a wildly successful businessman, an immigrant from such humble beginnings, that has clawed his way to the very top of everything he has attempted, without federal help, or taxpayer money. He smiled at his partisan advisories, which were vigorously aided by a supposed free press, and beat them with his strength of his personal character, not only his broad shoulders.

Bumpity, bump!

This is a wonderful lesson to learn for the future of this party and the betterment of our Country. Most Republicans that voted, closed ranks with their moderate brethren, at the detriment of their political enemies, taking away a victory where defeat was eminent.. Pragmatism was not a sellout in this case, it was a step in the right direction in getting a place at the table where future meals are sure to be more palatable.. a little FOOD lingo.. but I digress...

I agree with your points except this one:

Education, and public schools are miserable failures, and the most dependable and major political media pawns, the inner city poor, have just about had it with the Left's slavish devotion to the wealthy NEA, at the sacrifice of the poorest children. This insidious practice has kept the poverty stricken in the deepest of despair.. but not forever.. It is becoming all to obvious that dumbing down is causing a backup in the courts and court of public opinion.

The problem with inner city schools is not money, it's partly teacher's union, but the 900 pound gorilla that no one wants to address honestly (like illegal immigration) is the fact that many if not most of these kids come from broken homes typically with no responsible male parent and compromised maternal guardians.

Until that trend is stemmed, nothing else will work unless we take these children out of that environment forcibly which is never going to happen in a constitutional republic and the only folks who can fix that are those communities themselves.

"The biggest loser in this entire fiasco was none other than Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton."

On John Stewart's "The Daily Show", Stewart was putting the bee into her bonnet about how a "hypothetical presidential candidate" could go very short-run like Arnold, only announcing as close to the end as possible. She turned away from the camera a moment to late to cover the maniacal grin on her face. Now I don't need horror movies anymore.

Cobalt, I hear you about the Libertarians (been there done that). It does appear that Arnold has swiped their best ideas and left the rest in the padded room. The man has three (?) years to perform the tasks of Hercules, the role he was born for all along.
