Contacting the Free Republic leadership

Posted on 10/08/2003 10:47:53 PM PDT by StephenDewey

My name is Stephen Dewey, and I am a reporter for the Harvard Political Review. I'm doing an article on online conservative activism, and I'd like to exchange emails or phone calls with somebody from the Free Republic leadership about your organization. If anybody were to point me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated. My email address is sdewey AT fas.harvard.edu (spelled that way to avoid spam!). Thanks!

There once was a rhymester named Fairbanks
Whose limericks like mine kinda stank
And yet they were funny
They were really quite punny
His humor was pretty darn fair, tanks

Certainly the ladies deserve recognition; most lady FReepers I know are the best FReepers around and the most active.

But the press has to keep up the image of white southern men as conservatives! lol

Well, I've moved up - I now starve children, throw old people out into the street in the dead of winter, pollute, stripmine, and heck, I've even been known to hurt people's feelings... It takes more than stealing lunch money and measuring for cement shoes to be a Goon these days... ;0)

Or a Republican - though stealing the lunch program was a classic.

Can I add that to my curriculum Vitae?

Certainly. And here's a direct quote: "Who told you that joke? CHAD??"

And: "So, what did you and the 'corrupting influence' talk about today?" (Of all my friends here, somehow I knew he meant you.)

Hold on a second.

What happened to your title "Supreme Overlord of FreeRepublic"? Huh? Was that nothing but a sham? A ruse? A wily subterfuge?

I didn't know about it until 2000. Don't overestimate our importance.

On The Sopranos, goons take people for rides and pretend to be friendly, then shoot 'em in the head. Then they cut up the bodies in Satriale's Pork Store and put them in big plastic garbage bags. Or, if they're not that mad, they just beat the hell out of people and leave them in the fetal position in the street, crying like babies.

I'm pretty sure Chad doesn't do stuff like that. He must not be a goon.

Welcome Stephen.

Jim Robinson is the site owner. A very nice man, btw.

If your initial welcome didn't chase you away, I'm sure he would be more than happy to speak with you.

If it seemed "less than polite" when you first posted, it is because people join the forum and disrupt it all the time in an effort to cause grief here. FreeRepublic is a very popular conservative forum. In fact, it is the largest one on the internet. So we get our share of "disruptors". Webenvy :o)

Once you talk to Jim, you will see just how large this community is. As a conservative, it will give you a good feeling.

So good luck and again, WELCOME!!

BTW, I was very impressed with your biography!!

BRAVO!!!

To learn more about some of us, you can click on our screen-names and read a "profile page". In the early days of FR more of us had them. You would have been very impressed with the backgrounds of Freepers. Some very famous people are known to "freep" here. They even admit it publicly.

I hope you will stick around. I think you would offer an interesting view, but you might want to use an "anonymous" name instead of your real one for those purposes. ~OR~ you can just ~Lurk~ as once again, many big names admit doing.

FRegards, VHW
