October 7, 2003 -- It's been no honeymoon for two Florida National Guardsmen who met and married Iraqi women while serving in Baghdad. The love-struck soldiers - Sgt. Sean Blackwell, 27, of Pace, Fla., and Cpl. Brett Dagen, 37, of Walnut Hill, Fla. - have been in hot water since mid-August, when they defied their commander's orders and marched down the aisle with their Iraqi sweethearts.

Two GI's marrying women is news? Heck, I half expected that these guys converted to Islam to marry a couple of male Iraqi physicians....

I agree there. The way they went about it wasn't too clever. It could've been an ambush. Luckily it turned out ok.

I suspect that these boys are just using a PR shield to keep everyone involved alive until they can all
get back to the U.S. where they can openly be themselves. Relatively openly anyway.

That said ...

Great post!

MM:What's so bad about that?

its not normally a concern for someone going between denominations - the concern (eternal) is moreso that in converting to islam, they have denied the atoning sacrifice we have in Christ. Following the line of thought, they have then denied the trinity and the work of the Holy Spirit as well.

Im pretty confident the god of Islam is not the Soveriegn God of the Bible -

Thats an unpardonable sin, and something that should be grieved and prayed for

I agree - I further believe these two guys are completely nuts! This may be an all-time record of what guys will do for a little companionship???

Well, not being a follower of Christ or Mohammed, I don't really care which is the sovereign of what. As long as the followers of both let me alone to watch Harry Potter, study science, live my own life and have my own beliefs- we're pretty much okey dokey.

These two GI's were willing to disobey their officer, put their buddies in danger, and deny their God for these Iraqi women. What else are they willing to do?

BINGO!

That is precisely the issue...whatever their intent may be. They could very easily have been used...and now they have shown to their comrades and their commanding officers that they very easily could be used.

I am sure Clinton having the Chinese Colonel at the White House, who happened to be a pretty Chinese girl and was also posing as an executive for the Chinese commerical aviation industry, was all about love too. [/sarcasm]

It takes seven years to achieve American citizenship through marrage. And as a side note the following appeared in the Pensacola News Journal about their respective occupations:

"Both soldiers had served in the regular Army before joining the National Guard. Blackwell was discharged last year and planned to attend Pensacola Junior College but was called up with the Guard before classes began in January, his mother said.

Blackwell has two young daughters, one from a previous marriage, the other out of wedlock, McKee said. Each is residing with her respective mother.

Dagen, a marine engine mechanic in civilian life, has never been married, said Gwen Tuton, a cousin and Walnut Hill neighbor."

A good marine engine mechanic can make a lot of money, although I'm not sure how good this guy is.

Nice looking girl, anyway. Well, we shall see what transpires.. like , for instance, will the women remain muslim upon entering the US. Lots of possibilities here, no?

They're GIs , the smartest, most adaptable and flexible Soldiers on Earth. They found a way and did it. Their buddies, bet on it, knew and covered for them , just like these guys will cover their buddies in the end.

Some of your ideas are completely wrong, like:
"....but we do know that ordinary Iraqs, especially women, did not have the opportunity to become high level professionals."

How do you know this? Did you know that Iraq is one of the Islamic nations that women can show their hair and body in public ? This is the first question.

Second is this : "........To those of you who maintain that GI's have always brought home war brides, let me ask did they bring home German Nazi war brides?"

I know some Veteran Air Force pilots who brought war brides from Vietnam, and also Germany.
Nazis were ruling from 1933 to 1945, and our forces got into there in 1945-6, so they took brides home from there.

The fact of posting such a story was about love and the lonliness of the servicemen. That is all!

The DoD wrote about 'love' blossoming among our troops and the newly free Iraqi women early last summer. Grateful young women were making themselves quite available.

This Iraqi bride feels safe enough to allow this picture. It says something about her family's faith in the US troops, and faith that Saddam's cruel Ba'athists are finished.

Pray for our troops.

Heck, they all look the same to me.

"GI's have married locals from every country we've ever been stationed in. Love always finds a way."

In Adak, Alaska there has never been one GI or Sailor married to a local.

There are none.

Locals, that is.
