Already posted here, but I sure wish every FReeper who reads this story will call this school and rant! Caney Creek High School is in Conroe, Texas. Here's their number: (936) 231-3330

Ask any doctor what a "rescue inhaler" is and they'll repond "albuterol inhaler." Anyone with moderate to severe asthma will carry one with them. They are bulky and sometimes you will forget. Believe me, you will seek out a buddy when you need one and can't find your own.

As much as I have lawsuits, I think this is time to sue the school district and the nurse. Asthma is common enough that any school will have a few asthmatic students. Why didn't they have a rescue inhaler available? If she was having an attack, why didn't the nurse call an ambulance? An attack can be a life-threatening event. How did the nurse make her "diagnosis?" Did she use a pulse-ox device? Did she use a breath meter to determine the amount of airflow?

Sue them and chances are, they will back down.

Absolutely a sue the pants off the b*st*rds moment.

These goons who are "running" public education don't understand any language other than coercion and force, which are their own preferred lingos.

The kid shouldn't bother with the hearing, because the school is going to put him into an alternative school anyway. A hearing is a waste of time -- a kangaroo court. Use that three-day suspension to look into a homeschooling program or a private school.

Then they should fight the charges in court.

Freakin' stupid idiotic public schools run and staffed by panty-waist morons.

This kid now has a drug arrest on his record.

No matter what the outcome, his permanent file will show that he is a drug criminal.

For the rest of his life, every school he attends and every employer will know him as a drug criminal.

Sounds like a police state to me.

It will end when people are once again convinced that they CAN handle situations with common sense without having to resort to sending a fax to Washington to get advice/permission, i.e. when liberalisn is defeated once and for all.

Here we go again. When will it end?

It looks to me like Friday, from the article:

The school district will hold a hearing on the matter Friday.

And that's why it is imperative that parents realize this and remove their children from schools that have these policies (which is practically every public school in the country).

It's very easy for good kids in today's public schools to make one mistake that could ruin their futures. Public education is not worth that risk, even if you pay through the nose in property taxes for it.

Today's public school administrators do not treat students as individuals. They treat them as part of a collective, a blob. It's easier for them that way. They don't have to use any judgment.

Parents should ask why they are paying these people six-figure salaries when a clerical worker in the school office is capable of making the decision to pick up the phone and calling the cops and then notifying the school board of an expulsion hearing.

What ever is not obligatory is forbidden. What is not forbidden is obligatory.

Why we continue to put our kids in the hands of these people, I do not know. Local control of the public schools, and a private alternative to them must be job one. What kind of education can they be getting at the hands of morons?

But the school nurse said it was a violation of the district's no-tolerance drug policy, and reported Kivi to the campus police.

I wonder if, with a big enough club, it's possible to beat "DON'T BE A MORON" into that school nurse?

This chit makes me mad enough to spit.

Zero tolerance maens zero brains, zero common sense, and means zero to me.
I would sue the blood out of every school employee involved including the school board.

agreed....if that was my daughter that the nurse was ignoring I would be sueing to say the least. That nurses arrogance put the girls life in danger. She should be brought up on charges, she's incompetent and a danger to all students.

Worse, was she even an RN? Or was she an LPN? She sure wasn't a nurse practicioner who would have done the same thing. Twenty-Two years ago, when I was a young sprout, I had a freind who keeled over from a pretty bad attack in the middle of recess, I didn't have asthma, but two of my freinds did, and they gave him their inhalers until the base EMS arrived. As for me, I just held his hand and screamed at him to focus on me. (this was in Rota, Spain). Did we get suspended, no, our third grade teacher commended us and paid for milk and cookies out of her own pocket, godbless.

This school board has it's head up it's 4th point of contact for SURE!

If the school officials made any effort to prevent the kid from loaning the inhaler to the girl, the parents should insist that they be charged with attempted murder.
