IT'S IN THE BREAKING NEWS SIDEBAR THANKS! |
A more sensitive view.
Dumb _itch! So I suppose that Roy's partner and other eye witnesses to this tragic accident didn't see what they saw???
She's lucky to have a forum for her views, even if she's wrong on the facts!
Thank God we have a forum too....FREE REPUBLIC!!!!
This conclusion is about as silly as any of the claims of animal rights wackos.
Animals obviously think. Many can reason. Evidence suggests that some dream much like humans do. The more closely animals are related to humans--the more DNA et al. that we share--the more they are like us in every way. Many animals are very much like humans. Animals know love, devotion, fear, pain, anger, comfort, discomfort, eagerness to please; some, e.g. dogs, obviously feel guilt. There is no doubt that the animals who live with me know love.
Animals must be protected as much as is feasible.
It is entirely plausable that the tiger was trying to protect Roy. As Siegried said, if the tiger had wanted to kill him, it would have--instantly.
We had recent reports of a kangaroo's saving an injured man by soliciting help and leading rescuers to him...
...and recent reports of a cat's bringing help to a drowning lamb.
Anyone who lives intimately with animals knows how sensitive, how intelligent, and how very much like humans they can be.
To suggest that they are not conscious is absurd.
That said, however--the ridiculous claims of animal rights "activists" must be rejected as soundly as the ridiculous claims of "environmentalists".
If an animal threatens human, it must be stopped--killed if necessary.
Similarly, environazis cannot be allowed to bully and tyrranize people either.
The power of both of these groups must be seriously curtailed.
Animal rights and the environment must be respected and protected, but the actions of the extremists MUST NOT BE TOLERATED!
Until the animals learn to blush, their only purpose is whatever purpose human beings can find for them and their only right is the right to be eaten.
What a human being does to an animal has no more moral significance than what a human being does to a rock. Any human being that places any animal above any human being for any reason has rejected their own humanity and deserves exactly the same rights any other animal has, none.

"their only right is the right to be eaten.""What a human being does to an animal has no more moral significance than what a human being does to a rock."
Animals definitely have rights--including the right not to suffer from human cruelty.
Furthermore, you could not possibly know whether animals worry, hope, hate, or experience nostalgia, guilt, regret, or pride. In fact, some animals obviously worry, hope, hate, and experience regret.
Any human who inflicts wanton cruelty to animals commits an act of unmitigated evil, becomes at least as brutish as any animal, and is profoundly immoral.
I hope you will rethink your position on this. An attitude like this is soul destroying.

Good for you, I agree.
I always called it "Disneyfication".

I'll tell you what, get just one animal to explain what you just explained and I'll believe it. Some people believe rocks and plants have desires and feelings. You just don't go as far as they do.
I've talked to my kitties, and neither one of them disagrees with me.
Hank
Maybe they do in recently-written, bunny-hugger-inspired legal documents, but does this also apply to animals that eat other animals? Many times even before the eatee is dead?
What you opine, then, is that we humans don't have as many rights as the animals do, is that right?
Thank you.
Serial killers tend to start off with cruelty to animals. After a while, they just don't get the same kick from torturing an animal, and they "graduate" to people.
