Psalm 23: the war version
Number: 5720 Date: June 3,
It used to be terrifying enough to walk through the valley of the shadow of death, but todays churchgoers will now have to consider the danger of a full-scale violent confrontation breaking out as the Church of England has reworked the 23rd Psalm.
Instead of resting in fields of green grass and lying by streams, Davids words also have been changed to allow a modern-day Psalmist to envisage a country of justice and peace.
The Psalm has been rewritten by a Namibian pastor and is included in a new Church publication, Pocket Prayers for Justice and Peace.
The prayers have been compiled by the charity Christian Aid and are designed to improve peoples prayer life, according to Eleanor Young, a spokeswoman for the Church of England's books division. They are intended to tackle issues such as debt in the developing world and fair trade.
The Lords Prayer has also been updated to be more aware of those living in impoverished conditions. Written by a poor community in South America, it thanks God for giving us our daily bread when we manage to get back our lands or to get a fairer wage.
Making changes to some of the Churchs best-loved Bible-passages might not please traditionalists, but Paula Clifford, publications manager of Christian Aid, hopes that they will be well received.
Some of this might be thought to be radical, but we hope the book might enable people to see things in a new light, she said. After all, Christians in Namibia are going to see things, like the 23rd Psalm, in a different way from Christians in a different setting. Allowing Scripture to inspire contemporary thoughts is perfectly legitimate, and there is nothing new about that.
Ping.
Another reason you need to be careful where your tithes and offerings goes to.

Translation: "In a healthy society, I'd be hanging upside-down in a dungeon."
You wrote "Translation: "In a healthy society, I'd be hanging upside-down in a dungeon.""
LOL! line of the week!
The ironic part, of course, is that the heretics don't even realize what's happened when they become a parody of themselves... I tried something like what you just wrote on one of the heretics one time and she *just didn't get it*...
nope, she just looked confused...
