Your Comments, from what I know, this was not surprising, but not good. He isn't very Orthodox, and that tends to be the CW about him, any understanding about this.

Okay, now that I have vented.... this is just basic. It would be normal for Skylstad to become the president of the USCCB -- the status quo would dictate that.

There is marginally good news here in that Skylstad was elected by only 52%.

I had prayed it would be Archbishop Chaput, though I knew he was a long shot. It seems our bishops have a mighty long way to go . . .

Spokane Bishop William Skylstad says his memory is cloudy about events in the 1970s involving a priest who was molesting children.

Would I sound like someone from DU if I start ranting and screaming about this election?

I am feeling more and more disgusted with the US Bishops everyday. Is it against their grain to elect someone who is even slightly acceptable to me?

52%

But, does he have a mandate?

I've paid my $100 to FR. I'm poorer and sadder. If there's a good side, it's that 48% of the bishops recognize this guy's unfit for command.

I was disappointed and angry at the news that this archetypical Amchurch bishop, ascended to the top of the USSCB.

Make no mistake,he is a vain, petty, homosexual priest protector,at the very least. He was selected, vetted, appointed and installed by prelates who started as infiltrators and rose to the pinacles of power in the 70's. He was installed as a bishop in 1977 and has been carrying, planting and watering the seeds of destruction of the Catholic Church ever since. His diocese is declaring bankruptcy,he was chairman of the ad hoc bishops'committee on abuse (I believe)and consequently responsible for the ilk of Bennett,Panetta and Hughes as lay members of that committee.

I saw him interviewed early on by the press and he imperiously declared there was no relationship between homosexuality and the scandal. He also, predictably, did not believe it was appropriate to withold communion from public sinners.

Most recently,he wrote an intimidating letter to members of his diocese protecting a priest who was caught in some adult porno or adult bookstore type of misbehavior. In that letter he said detraction and calumny was sinful and chastised the persons who were angry that the priest was being allowed to continue in his position. Narses, can you post it?

There was also a little incident with the President of Gonzaga, over the "Vagina Monologues". The President would not permit the play to be shown and evidently Skylstad thought it was okay to present. I just knnow he was permissive and the Prez was not.

After thinking some more as I typed this out,it occurred to me that his stepping up may be a better move than had someone else ben elected. After all the scandal has not yet been satisfactorily resolved and the new man,in this case Cardinal George, would have to use a lot of his capital taking actions that would be very difficult toward his brother bishops. He would also haave to deal with a hostile press who would seek to sink him. They would have a better shot with the scanal still on the stove. I hope by the time Cardinal George takes the reigns, the rest of the 25 imposter bishops and cardinals will be removed by age, resignation or imprisonment.

I was very happy that Kikanes got very few votes,he definitely carries water for the enemies of the Catholic Church.

Sinksppur, youtold us to mark your words and I did. You said "Skylstad will be the next Chairman and Wuerl will be next". You were right on the first part but wrong on Wuerl. So I guess the mushy, muddled middle didn't hold. Thank God.

I went to the EWTN site and can not find confirmation of Sklystad's election. I also went to Catholic.org and CatholicExchange.org. Where did you hear of it?

Terrible selection, but par for the course for these heretics known as the USCCB. Skystad has a checkered past in dealing with child molesting priests and his diocese has just filed for bankruptcy. Skylstad also indicated that if Kerry came to his diocese, he would be welcome to receive Holy Communion.

Well, at least Bernardin is happy today.

Bishop William Skylstad Background Response to Possible Enquiries Regarding Father Ed Marier

It has been brought to my attention that some individuals have been in contact with the media and others in a public campaign of slandering Fr. Ed Marier, a priest in good standing with the Spokane Diocese and the pastor in Colton-Uniontown. They are attempting to use the media for their reprehensible purposes. I condemn their actions in the strongest terms.

These actions constitute slander and defamation, both against Fr. Marier and the Diocese. They are an attempt to discredit and defame this Diocese's solid record of accomplishment since 1989 in properly handling and responding to the issue of protecting children from abuse. These accusations clearly constitute an invasion of Fr. Marier's rights to personal privacy.

In order to appeal to the integrity of the media and in the interests of putting occurrences in Fr. Marier's life in proper perspective, so as not to allow these slanderous accusations to go unchallenged, with the permission and at the behest of Fr. Marier and his legal counsel, I have been authorized to provide the following information.

About eight years ago a housekeeper brought to my attention that while working at Fr. Marier’s residence at the parish rectory in Wilbur she had come across a sexual book while cleaning his bedroom. I took her word at face value, called Fr. Marier and confronted him with this information. He conceded he did have adult sexual material and he agreed he should receive counseling for this. He was relieved of his ministry and sent to a respected institute in the Midwest for several months of intensive in-patient therapy and counseling. In the winter of 1997, the parish council and parish in Wilbur were fully informed by me in a public meeting of the reason for his removal and that he had been sent for therapy and counseling. I state to you unequivocally the accusation against him at the time had nothing to do with abuse of minors.

Following his counseling, based on the judgment of Fr. Marier's numerous counselors and therapists and the advice of his mental health counselor, it was my decision to place Fr. Marier back in ministry with the understanding that he would continue to receive professional counseling and that his conduct would be monitored.

Unfortunately, Fr. Marier suffered a relapse and in late 1999 he was cited by law enforcement authorities for lewd behavior in an adult book store in Spokane. On forfeiture of a $500 bond, the citation against him was amended to disorderly conduct and the matter was closed by Court order.

Following that incident, based on the advice of his mental health counselor and the Diocesan Sexual Abuse Committee sitting at the time, I determined that Fr. Marier could be kept in his parish ministry and that he did not, and does not, present a danger or risk to children. I hope this case will be viewed as one might view a clergy member with an alcohol problem. We all know there are priests so afflicted who can, and still do, perform as fine ministers.

There is now rumor and innuendo being spread by some, that the material found by the housekeeper ten years ago was something more serious than previously reported. Fr. Marier categorically denies this accusation. There is nothing in the treatment record and the reports of his numerous professional mental health counselors and therapists to support such an accusation. I believe Fr. Marier and have seen nothing to the contrary.

However, upon being informed that there is now an allegation the material found ten years ago was something more serious than initially reported, we have reported the allegation to the Spokane Police Department, as is the policy in this Diocese.

I today am reiterating my personal support for Fr. Marier to continue with his ministry in this Diocese. I also personally condemn in no uncertain terms the unchristian actions of slander directed toward Fr. Marier and the Diocese.

I have every confidence that the parishioners of Uniontown-Colton and the people of the Diocese as a whole will support this decision. I encourage the media to consult with their management and legal counsel before publishing any story on this matter.

Comments? You want comments?

Put Archbishop Burke and Bishop Bruskewitz in charge of 1-day commission disbanding the cancerous USCCB. Permanently.

Same for all national Bishops conferences globally.

Fire all the unfaithful bishops--80+% IMO. 1 week to get the hell off Church property you traitors!

Elevate real men w spine to the episcopacy. There are plenty, Fr. John Corapi comes to mind as an example. Fr. Corapi is former Green Beret, Nam era. Take no prisoners.

Excommunicate all Pro-Abort Pols and public abortion supporters.

Fumigate the seminaries and remove all the filthy sodomites at all levels within the hierarchy. Remove all pedophiles and help the law burry them, same for all bishops who ever covered up. Life in prison with hard labor; make em’ suffer.

Strict and common sense admissions policy (NO HOMOS) with strong defenders in charge.

Give 1 week to all who should take that oath of fidelity (?) the Pope ask for a decade ago. Fire all who do not comply by the 8th day.

Restore Tradition and scrap the heresies. Fire all who do not comply.

Institute MANDATORY Pro-Life education and authentic Catechism in all Catholic Schools, CCD; RCIA; AND Universities, etc. with testing. Fire all who do not comply.

That ought to take care of the big problems.

This is not a rant.

The bishops have hit an all time low. What a bunch of old
queens! The commentators mentioned the communion song for
the Mass the bishops concelebrated. It apparently was a
secular song. Can anyone find out or let us know what that
communion song was? I hesitate to call it communion HYMN.
