Note the number 42. 42 months in Jesus' ministry, 42 sojourns in the desert, (Numbers 33), 42 children eaten by the bears when they told Elisha to "go up!" Great stuff!
Everyone with even the slightest education knows that 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything.
It would be "great stuff" if 42 were accurate. Through my own personal investigation of the Hebrew language, and with my special insight into the secret things of God, I've discovered 43, not 42, hidden messages in the Isaiah 53 text. By careful use of the Discipler Logarithm, I've discovered that Isaiah warned against domesticated cats. To be exact, Isaiah says (in code, of course), "Cats are slinking, sneaking creatures which ought to be banished to the desert....Dogs are man's best friend." So you see, Isaiah gives a lesson for animals loves, but he also confounded the whole thing about the number 42. Oh well, the search keeps on.
All kidding aside, I believe the Bible with all my heart, but I don't put much stock in all this Da Vinci or any other code bombshells.
How did someone descide what was a countable message in the first place?
Numerology is nonsense. It all depends on what you count and how you determine the decoding method. It's all subjectivity with the illusion of objectivity.
Likewise, "7" is the Old Testament; "8" is the New Testament.
The New supplants the Old. The elders serve the Son. Everything in the Old Testament presages the New Testament.
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed." -- Romans 9:6-8"Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Any Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" fans out there?
The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything, given by the supercomputer Deep Thought to a group of mice, is "forty-two". According to the Guide, mice are 3-dimensional profiles of a pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent race of beings. They built Deep Thought, the second greatest computer of all time and space, to tell them the answer to the question of life, the universe and everything. After seven and a half million years the computer divulges the answer: forty-two.
"Forty-two!" yelled Loonquawl. "Is that all you've got to show for seven and a half million years' work?" "I checked it very thoroughly," said the computer, "and that quite definitely is the answer. I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you've never actually known what the question is."
"Isaiah 53 proved to be a rich cluster of hidden messages, containing 42 encoded statements relating to Jesus' death, resurrection and ascension, far more than his baseline predicted.

Ah yes, 42, the Answer to the "Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything."
Unfortunately, as we later discover, the Question is:
"WHAT DO YOU GET IF YOU MULTIPLY SIX BY NINE".
"Six by nine. Forty-two."
"That's it. That's all there is."

42 is also the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
