I stopped reading this long, boring and stupid article when they got to the plot summaries. Wrong, just wrong - my favorite error is mangling "Remus Lupin" into "Romulus Lupus". Um...
I've watched a few of the Potters and read one of them. I do think they are of a different quality than other fantasies.
There seems to be a dark side/light side portrayed in some of the fantasies that I tend to have no problem with.
But some of the others seem to have the dark side/the good side of the dark side/and the light side. I'm uncomfortable with the "good guys" on the dark side.
But there aren't any "good guys" who are "on" the dark side.
You have some "appearances" of evil. And you have characters that struggle against the evil.
You got further than I did.
Somebody ought to tell this muggle about the sin of envy. :)
GASP! BETWEEN! GASP! THIS! GASP! AND! GASP! SPONGEBOB! GASP! BEING! GASP! GAY! GASP! OUR! GASP! CHILDREN! GASP! DON'T! GASP! STAND! GASP! A! GASP! CHANCE! GASP!
GASP! BURN! GASP! THE! GASP! TV! GASP! AND! GASP! KEEP! GASP! YOUR! GASP! CHILDREN! GASP! INSIDED! GASP! AT! GASP! ALL! GASP! TIMES! GASP!
Could you please post the entire article? I don't like reading these little excerpts.
Now you've got me worried. I talk to the family dog.
She just doesn't talk back. The cat is another story. :)
Seriously, why can't a story just be a story? Fantasy and imagination are sign of a health mind. As a fan of GK Chesterton, I agree with him when he says that the mind of reason is the one most likely to be the one that is mad. He further postulates that the one who is insane has not lost his reason, rather, he has lost everything BUT his reason. (His book, Orthodoxy, is the source of my butchered quotes.)
For the same reason that The Little Mermaid isn't a fantasy, but is, according to the conspiracists, a subtle introduction to child porn.
They're furious that somebody, somewhere, is having some fun.
What I'm saying is that I think I'm seeing 3 sides instead of two. I see the good guys cooperating with a force that is presented darkly.
Until I resolve it, I'm not actively working against it, I'm not recommending it either....jmho fwiw.
Sure, after all what's wrong with allowing our children to read about and see movies with likable characters who practice the occult in a very well packaged attractive way? How could that possibly be harmful? The more sophisticated of us know that these thing are just fantasy, after all Satan is just a childish personification of evil, and hell, if it exists at all 'may be empty'. /[SARCASM]
"the continuing spread of what Pope John Paul II calls "the culture of death" has been made possible because Christians have not lived as signs of contradiction to the rise of neopaganism."
This is true with or without Harry Potter.
"When tolerance is the primary accepted social virtue, commitment to a particular faith is viewed as fundamentally antisocial and even threatening."
Well put. And since they are conspiracists, according to Chesterton again, our telling them there's no conspiracy is exactly what they'd expect.
And heaven forbid, children having fun? Oh, the humanity!
Nice talking to you again, sink.
Please let me know if you would like on or off the Harry Potter ping list. This is a very low volume list.
Thanks for the ping.
thxs!
Low volume, but everyone on it is EEEEE-VIL!
And it'll get higher in volume as July approachs. Yay! New HP book this summer!
LMAO!!
Are you a Kids in the Hall fan? "Evil! Evil! Impolite and evil!"
No, I've never seen that.... but I am evil... I was a wonderful, holy little child until I read Harry Potter and now I cast spells on people I don't like. Like the one who wrote this article. I'm casting a spell of facial warts on the author right now.
