Bishop David C. Bane Jr., who has led the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia since 1998, has announced that he plans to retire from the post in February.
.....
Bane has said his detractors disliked his style of looking to the grassroots to define the diocese’s priorities.
Critics had said he failed to exercise the leadership necessary to guide the diocese through financial and other problems.
The diocese has 37,000 members and more than 120 parishes.

FYI. You might want to ping this.
The trouble is Bane tried to have it both ways. He hadn't reckoned the degree to which the revisionists had penetrated the diocese.
