As a former member of that, ummmm, organization, I have a standing open offer to answer any FReeper's qusetions about Scientology, either in open forum, or via FReepmail.
I will do my best to answer as promptly, concisely and accurately as possible, but as I left some time ago, I'm not always privy to the latest wrinkles.
Still, from what I can gather from my few remaining contacts not that much has really changed!
Somehow that reminds me of the AIDS patient who was asked by his doctor who he got it from. His response? "Jeez Doc, do you think I have eyes in the back of my head???"
I have enough natural paranoia/caution/situational awareness that I'm always watching my 6.
Was Lisa McPherson's death ever talked about, or is she maintained in secrecy? What is said or unsaid about her?

Hubbard was a wacko, Battlefield Earth (the book) was a thinly veiled paranoid fantasy. Ron didn't bother hiding his hatred for psychology (Psychlo's and Catrists) much, for good reason. He would have been committed in most states very easily from the information I've researched. Do they still tell stories of the Sea Org?

Darned if I remember. I had heard quite a bit about her, but I *think* that was after I left, and I think she was still alive at that point. Anyway, no staff member would ever say anything about something like that to public.

Scientology has a lot of genuinely good people, who are benefiting from the application of 'The Tech'.
The organization OTOH is morally corrupt at the highest levels.
I believe that L. Ron Hubbard was murdered by some of those caring for him.
The people who took over the Church had:
Motive up the wazoo, the Hubbard millions, power over a vast number of fanatically loyal members. (Hubbard signed a brand new Will turning over total control of the Church to his minions only hours before his death).
Opportunity since they were the only people in daily contact with Ron, and total control over what he ate, who he saw, and all information he received.
Means Hubbard died of cerebral hemorrhage. He was being given medical doses of coumodin, a product which is also sold under the brand name Warfarin™. It is a rat poison, that causes death by hemorrhage. Any one of his care givers could have "adjusted" his dose.
Motive-Oportunity-Means. That's all a circumstantial case needs.
And then there's the coverup.
Hubbard was under the care of Dr. Gene Denk, and under California law being under a physician's care eliminates the requirement for an autopsy. Although one could have been requested, there was no autopsy.
The body was cremated within 24 hours of death, and the ashes scattered at sea. No more pesky evidence.
This was said to be in accordance with his religious practices. Curiously, there were no writings calling for cremation in existence prior to his death...
Update. Dr. Denk is dead...
What the heck is the Sea Org? It sounds like a creature from a Conan movie.
Originally it was made up of Hubbard's most trusted aids who were with him on the scientology home base, which due to legal problems was on board a private yacht, the Apollo. Since they were avoiding legal authorities they spend most of their time at sea - hence the Sea Org[anization].
Later in an excess of corporate loyalty the members decided that a lifetime contract was just soooooo wog that they created a one billion year contract.
Hubbard was said to be a bit freaked out by this, but quickly realized these were True Believers he could use.
I assume that "wog" is a term for "outsiders". What does it mean?
Also, be warned, "wog" is also a racial slur.
It is a slur. Last I heard they were trying to eliminate it from the lexicon because the wogs didn't like it!
So, what is Scientology's attitude toward religions? Does Scientology view them as competitors or something to be eliminated or what?

Sure. I was just curious as to what it meant in Scientology Speak. The only meanin go "wog" with which I was familiar prior to this thread was in regard to people from India/Pakistan/Bangladesh.

They insist that one can be of any faith and successfully uses scientology. To some degree that is true. Scientology doesn't directly address God, and therefore doesn't require that one give up a pre existing faith.
In practice, one is sorta expected to ultimately join the Ron-is-God club.
