A friend of mine was walking down a street in Minneapolis one day and was confronted by an evangelical brother who asked, "Brother, are you saved?" Hal rolled his eyes back and said, "Yes." That didn't satisfy this brother, so he said, "Well, when were you saved?" Hal said, "About two thousand years ago, about a twenty minutes' walk from downtown Jerusalem." What a great line. I have to remember that!

What a great line. I have to remember that! The response from the street evangelist is not recorded (for all we know it was "Halelujah, Brother"), but it appears that Hal didn't seem to care for the street evangelist. If someone comes up to you and asked you if you are "saved brother" and you roll your eyes, how is that reaction any different from the reaction of the reprobates?
Ought we not to be rejoicing that at least someone is out there pounding the pavement and seeking out the lost?

Ought we not to be rejoicing that at least someone is out there pounding the pavement and seeking out the lost? Because I relate after having been berated by plenty of street preachers myself.
I think that his friend has had similar experiences, and it certainly was going that way by the street preacher questioning his salvation.
You know the type, unless that particular street preacher is the one who saaaaves< /southern accent> you, you just ain't saved.

Rod Rosenbladt (Ph.D., University of Strasbourg) is Professor of Theology at Concordia University in Irvine, CA. . . . He is an ordained minister in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Ping for an article by an able Lutheran theologian.

Because I relate after having been berated by plenty of street preachers myself. That wouldn't happen if you were carrying a Big Bible.
