New facts on guilt in Mountain Meadows Massacre

By Carrie A. Moore
Deseret News religion editor
New evidence uncovered by scholars researching the Mountain Meadows Massacre shows that regional leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southern Utah had greater culpability in the event than previously acknowledged by most LDS authors.
In a strikingly candid presentation of the events surrounding the massacre, three LDS Church employees told participants at the annual meeting of the Mormon History Association on Friday that "a willingness to face the facts" is vital to "true reconciliation."......

....... In the "spirit of frankness and healing," Turley has teamed with Glen Leonard, director of the Museum of Church History and Art, and Ronald Walker, a professor of history at the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for LDS History at Brigham Young University, to produce a book — "Tragedy at Mountain Meadows" — he said will deal with previously unpublished materials relating to the events. All three addressed the gathering at the Doubletree Hotel in Tucson.
"Open, candid evaluation of that tragedy can produce catharsis, a cleansing spiritual renewal and healing," Turley said, adding the authors will "present the evidence as we find it — honestly, openly and candidly." Once the book is published next year by Oxford University Press, the group plans to "open new sources we have discovered for public use."

We are all still waiting for the book to be published. I wonder what happened?

I don't mind talking about things that has a bases but opinions founded on heresay or stawman and contribed which no one knows for sure what happen!

BTW These kind of stories always fail to mention what previous took place to the LDS!

Here LDS had to leave their homeland and belongings and planted crops etc. forced to across country and many died, even frozed to death, because of the Winter weather because the gov.Boggs order extermination of all LDS

...and this Francher party comes from Arkansas the home of Albert Pike, many of the various LDS had no clue what their purpose was for many crossing country did not take that route and at time they wer reported to be hostil towards!

so as far as I am concern the details are still unknown?

One hears that Oxford University Press is about to bring out a book on the Mountain Meadow Massacre by authors Richard Turley, Glen Leonard and Ronald Walker. Do you know the status of this book and what do you expect from it?

Bagley: I hear that they hope, once again, to complete the manuscript by May [2006]. And Oxford hopes to release the book by 2007, but given their track record, the fact that they failed to publish the Joseph Smith papers in time for the bicentennial of his birth, doesn’t instill a lot of confidence about their ability to produce on time. And I really think in the meantime someone in the Church hierarchy will have an attack of common sense and ask whether the Church should even publish an official book on the Massacre. No matter how they try to spin it, they [the Church] can’t deny that they’ve spent 5- 10 -20 million dollars on the project and still [they cannot] claim it is not an official [LDS] history. They’ve had virtually their entire Historical Department [10-15 professionals] tiedup in the project for the last 4 years. I do pray every night that they will be foolish enough to publish it, because my book’s sales could use the boost. Regardless, the [Arthur H. Clark Co.] Kingdom of the West series will be publishing its volume about Mountain Meadows, Innocent Blood: Narratives of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, next year.
