* Kevin Knight lives in Aurora, CO, he is the webmaster of www.newadvent.org, the Catholic website which provides both Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica and the Catholic Enciclopedia.
How does he know this? This is a very weak and high-handed statement to make.
It would seem that all it would take to invalidate his entire argument would be to discover extraterrestrial life.
Protestants have ALL the sacraments.
When we walk into heaven, we are going to be surprised at who is- and isn't there.
Outside of Christ there is no salvation. If you are in Christ, by grace through faith, you are, by definition, the Church.
Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
And here I was just defending the Catholic church.
Well, I'm not outside the Church.
As I've asserted repeatedly (and Scripture bears out) Heaven will be populated by Roman Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants who have believed and accepted Christ (and for my Calvinist friends, those who Christ has saved with no effort whatsoever on your part).
See y'all there!
My initial response is LOL.
Interesting apologetic. "Outside the Church there is no salvation>"
This certainly isn't a new idea and long pre-dates the Reformation. I didn't realize that it was dogma of the Roman Church, though. I think an excellent theological argument can be made for this proposition but I do think that its a bit presumptious. Orthodox theologians are of two minds about this. Theosis is found within The Church and as a Eucharistic and Liturgical people we are saved in and as members of the Eucharistic Community which is The Church. On the other hand, I suppose I can't see the purpose in denying the power of the Holy Spirit to go whither He will.
Many of these catholic threads are interesting.
This one seems to inspire nothing but flame bait though.
Whats your point for posting it?
If the printing press had existed in Moses' day, then books would have been included, along with idols and images, among the things that people should not worship in place of G*d himself.
Bumping to read later.
This sounds a little bit like John Kerry could have written it.
Indeed, that is a very hard saying; yet it is an article of Christian faith. And yet....
Right now I'm reading The Thought of Benedict XVI by Aiden Nichols, OP, a marvelous work. In it, the Dominican Fr. Nichols does remind us, however, that "...though universalism, the salvation of everyman, is not part of Christian faith, it is assuredly part of Christian hope."
May the Lord's will be done in all things, on earth and in heaven.
Thank you so much for posting this fine article, NYer!
Gee, I didn't expect anything controversial to arise on this thread :)
Isaiah 26:4 Trust in YHvH forever, for the LORD, YHvH is the Rock eternal.

This pope is wrong in this statement.
While I believe that there is no Christianity other than Church Christianity, I do not believe that the Roman Church is the sole place one finds Christianity on this earth.
I swear that there will be 40 million idiots walk through the gates of heaven just to exclaim "why is this place so crowded?"
Wait a minute...I thought salvation was through Jesus Christ...the church does not save anyone. This is nuts.
