I wasnt in Vietnam in 2004 I was there 3 weeks ago and I saw open churches and nuns and crosses. As I said, I went there and lived with a local family (not in a hotel) and my friend complained to me of all the areas where there's lack of freedom there and he said religion was not one of them. I'm not saying vietnam is perfect. They have quite a ways to go but we should encourage and compliment reform when we see it.

Did you go to any prayer groups are prayer meetings? My wife did. Did you have police show up? Where my wife was going to meet they did. The Catholic church is allowed there only because of outside political pressure and large sums of aid from America. The Catholic church is regulated on what they can say. Other forms of Christianity are not allowed. Perhaps your friend is not aware and does not try to spread the word there, because it is most certainly a problem.
Most inspiring read.
