Letter of Bishop Lennon to a Holy Trinity parishioner:
Blog of G. Thomas Fitzpatrick ^ | Most Rev. Richard Lennon

ARCHDIOCESE OF BOSTON 2121 COMMONWEALTH AVENUE BRIGHTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02135-3193 (617) 254-0100 FAX (617) 783-2947 VICAR GENERAL MODERATOR OF THE CURIA 15 February 2006

Dear ____________:

First I wish to express my regrets that your 21 August 2005 is being acknowledged in such a tardy manner; however, I only recently have received it from the Office of the Archbishop with a request to respond to it. I note that your letter regards Holy Trinity Parish in Boston and specifically your request that the Archbishop invite either the Fraternity of Saints Peter and Paul or the Institute of Christ the King to come to the Archdiocese of Boston to service the Tridentine Community. Please know that the Archbishop has received requests similar to your's in the past and has consistently responded that in accord with the request of Ecclesia Dei the Archdiocese of Boston provides the celebration of Mass in the Tridentine Rite and has the qualified priests to celebrate this Mass. It is not the intention of the Archbishop to begin a Tridentine Rite parish, thus at this time he does not envision the necessity nor the advantage of inviting priests from either of the two groups that you mention to the Archdiocese as we can provide for the celebration of the Mass on a weekly basis. With my best wishes, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Richard G. Lennon Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia

Still River beckons. Leave the city of Sodom.

Fr. Connolly's a nice man, but it's a long commute, I should also note that there is a very vibrant Melkite Cathedral in Boston (the Eparchial seat) and a fairly old Maronite Parish......have to love +Gregory Mansour, I saw that picture of him actually on his knees praying at a NAMY conference and it really stuck.

Five at the Archdiocese of Boston and the only Clergy (Bishops included) I ever saw kneel and pray was Msgr. McGrath the Librarian at the Seminary who would quietly slip in to pray before the Blessed Sacrament whenever he passed the old St. William's Hall Chapel (which btw belongs to BC now and is no longer a chapel)

As a present Holy Trinity member coming from Plymouth, I think it's off to Holy Name in Providence for me and my family. Still River is just too far, nearly 100 miles. I imagine a lot of HT folks will wind-up there, including many of my friends. What sense of "community" we *have* managed to cobble together is going to be ripped apart if HT closes.

What group in Still River do you attend? My brother is a priest at St. Benedict Abbey.

And don't forget that some may go the shorter distance to St. Roger and Mary (Sedevacantist) in West Roxbury or to the SSPX chaplaincy out in Norwood.

I doubt very many (if any?) of the regulars would, but anyone still searching might.

What would be so horrible about having a Tridentine Rite parish?

Indeed. or to the CMRI nuns' outpost they're estabilishing here. They are on a serious mission campaign, and have made numerous converts to there "don't ask, don't tell" brand os sedevacantism. They've managed to pull a few away from HT already.

Most people at HT wouldn't dream of such a step. But a minority would, especially when they have been objectively treated like dirt and 27-th class citizens by all of the power centers of the AoB. I don't advocate such a mindset, but, from a purely psychological viewpoint, it is understandable. The AoB would do well to consider the implications if the sedes get a firm footing here.

Not promoting just recognizing a fact....it would be a shame to lose these folks to the Church, but it will happen.
