Did Pope Perform Miracle After His Death?

OME -- The sudden recovery of a young French nun suffering from Parkinson's disease is at the heart of the sainthood case for Pope John Paul II, the Polish priest who heads the inquiry said Monday.

The Vatican needs to confirm a miracle after John Paul's death for the pontiff to be beatified, the first step toward his possible canonization.

Monsignor Slawomir Oder told The Associated Press in an interview that an official inquiry into the nun's inexplicable recovery was beginning this week.

Deuteronmy 18:11
Nor Charmer, nor any one that consulteth pythonic spirits, or fortune tellers, or that seeketh the truth from the dead.

Try as you may it ain't referring to what you are trying to make out of it. What this verse it talking about is the sort of thing you see on TV John Edwards style or any of the soothsayers you find in Jackson square in New Orleans.

Praying to a past Pope or any other person (passed away) is no different than talking on the phone with a loved one. It is the same as asking for help from the living since Christ and his saints are the living. More so than many people walk right now. Christ Himself even referred to some of this sort when he said let the dead bury the dead.

No I do not. Deuteronomy 18:11 specifically enjoins God's people from consulting with the dead.

Fair enough, but people were dead when Deuteronomy was written.

Jesus made all things new, including resurrecting the dead after his truimph at Calvary.

As I stated in Luke 23:43. Those who die in Christ, are with Christ in heaven. Do I have that wrong?

Just trying to understand your p.o.v.

"Oh, I see.. the bible that we have is not reliable and only the catholics have the super secret version with all this other stuff in it that supports their idolatrous practices. "

What? Super secret? Drop in to your local Barnes&Noble and pick up a Catholic version of the Bible. It's no secret. Please cut out this nonsensical stuff.

I'd say asking a living person for prayer is very different than asking a dead pope.

If you believe in the life after, you will understand that one is not asking a "dead pope" but instead is asking a living servent of God.

Again I say you guys need to read your bible for yourself instead of depending on "the teaching" of your apostate leaders. They are leading all of you to hell.

Wasn't Christ who told Saint Peter that what the Church binds on Earth will be bound in heaven? Futhermore, I have read the Bible cover to cover more than once and continue to study it, but thank you for making baseless assumptions.

It would help if you catholics would actually open a bible once in a while instead of depending on your apostate leaders to tell you what to believe.

You just beam with love, don't you?

"Wasn't Christ who told Saint Peter that what the Church binds on Earth will be bound in heaven?"

I think he may have missed that. I'm betting that he's missed most of it, except what he's been taught by whatever preacher he listens to. It's pretty common out there.

Why are you amazed? I'm a history buff, with a specialized interest in the role that religion plays in history.

You sitck around here, Mineral Man. Atheist or no, history or faith, things around here happen, and we learn. ;o)

Why call anyone names?

Where have I called anyone names?

You share a basic belief in the same deity

No we don't. That is the point. The catholic church worships a god of their own making, not the god of the bible. They promote the worship of idols and false gods. They promote the worship of men both dead and alive. They can play all the word games they want but idolatry is idolatry and it is an abomination to God. My prayer is that perhaps even one person among them would begin to question the the things they have been taught and begin to seek the truth for themselves.

It is amazing the lengths to which catholics will go in order to hold on to their idolatry.

Ever hear of "bearing false witness against your neighbor?" You're spreading lies, like every other anti-Catholic that has come (and gone, I might add) on Free Republic.

He came by the house after he was dead and fixed the leak in the toilet. No one else could do it so I guess it is a miracle.

Too bad that stellar public and Sunday school education you received didn't teach you the difference between mediator and intercessor.

"I desire therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men:" 1 Timothy 2:1

***I'm betting they're going to say it's a miracle. The RCC desperately wants to canonize John Paul II. Myself, I'm not big on miracles.***

<<<For someone who is neither Catholic nor a believer in miracles, nor a believer in God, you sure jumped on this thread in a hurry.

I am constantly amazed by the fascination displayed by atheists for something they proclaim they don't believe in.<<<

Antoninus, thank you for so eloquently saying what I thought about MineralMan's post.

If you think something as well know as the Catholic Bible is a case of "super secret" Gnosticism, then there is no limit to what is super secret to your limited abilities.

I am comfortable with everyone seeing what is Gnostic in your limited understanding. You know some people can not add 2+2 to get 4, but that does not mean those who can are Gnostic. And some people can read books that have been printed in English longer than the KJV Bible which, by the way had those books as well. Does that make old KJV Bibles Gnostic as well?

By you line of logic you must think that very thing.

You are just tossing out charges that you don't even understand in the hopes they stick.

then explaining away the appearance of angels who often acted as intermediaries

We are not talking about God sending an angel to intervene, we are talking about men praying to dead men for healing. Show me in scripture where praying to an angel is permitted

My friend, why should I not be interested in an organization that has influenced history more than any other.

Amazing, isn't it? That a humble little backwater rabbi with a simple but difficult-to-live message grew into something so awesome, even nearly 2000 years after his death. Almost miraculous...

Why are you amazed? I'm a history buff, with a specialized interest in the role that religion plays in history.

Take care that the Lord isn't speaking to you through your interests, brother.
