San Francisco Catholic Charities Head Active Homosexual

SAN FRANCISCO, March 21, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The online Catholic news source, Ignatius Insight, has revealed that the head of San Francisco Catholic Charities is an active homosexual who four years ago adopted a child with his male partner. Brian Cahill has publicly opposed requests that Catholic Charities in San Francisco move to conform itself to Catholic teaching on the issue of homosexuals adopting children.

In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Brian Cahill repudiated archdiocesan spokesman Maurice Healy who said Monday that the Church in San Francisco would be working to follow more closely the Church's teaching.

"Our teaching on marriage and family life precludes these kinds of adoptions," Healy had said. "We need to find another way to help this vulnerable population. How, remains to be worked out."

Cahill, however, said in the interview that Healy, despite being the official archdiocesan spokesman, does not speak for Catholic Charities or for Archbishop Niederauer.

"This is an outright statement that is false," Cahill said of Healy's assertion that homosexual adoption was "precluded" by Catholic teaching. "Mr. Healy is, A) mistaken, B) doesn't speak for Catholic Charities and, frankly, it's clear to me that he's not speaking for the archbishop these days."

Cahill's assertion, while emphatic is in direct contradiction to the Pope's position.  In a document issued before he was elected Pope, titled "Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons," then-Cardinal Ratzinger wrote, "Allowing children to be adopted by persons living in (homosexual) unions would actually mean doing violence to these children, in the sense that their condition of dependency would be used to place them in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development."

Archbishop Niederauer issued a written statement that said the Archdiocese of San Francisco upholds Catholic teaching in this and all matters. He wrote, "In light of these convictions, we currently are reviewing our adoption programs to determine concretely how we can continue to best serve children who are so much in need of a home."

"Catholic teaching is paramount." Cahill said. "Equally paramount are the best interests of the vulnerable children that we serve."

Ignatius Insight, however, reveals that Cahill's stated devotion to Catholic teaching, is dubious since he is himself an active homosexual, with a homosexual son, and is living with a man with whom he has adopted a child.

The Advocate, a homosexual periodical, reported in 2004 that at least four members of the board of San Francisco Catholic Charities are actively homosexual.

The controversy is growing on both coasts with Boston Catholic Charities giving up its attempt to have an exemption based on religious freedom from the Massachusetts requirement that homosexuals be included in processes by public charities. Boston Catholic Charities announced that it would be pulling out of its historic ministry of adoptions because of the secular state's requirements.

The entire situation disgusts me. You would think that in San Francisco of all places, the Catholic Church would be even more outspoken about the sinfulness of the sodomites.

The Catholic Church is large as a whole. Hard to keep everyone under control. Like you say though, SF is a "no brainer" they should place a real hard nose Bishop in that area, someone who would really crack the whip!

This does not surprise me. The new archbishop of San Francisco supports Brokenback Mountain.

"Tolerance", not courage (and the other virtues), is the word of choice for most American bishops.

"The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops." -Saint Athanasius

"The road to hell is paved with the skulls of bishops" -St. John Chrysostom

"Catholic teaching is paramount." Cahill said. "Equally paramount are the best interests of the vulnerable children that we serve."

A classic example of moral relative reasoning. Per this logic Cahill could advocate anything contrary to Catholicism which he does here...

It is clear that Cahill's paramount interest and that which he serves are both one and the same -selfish pursuit of homosexual activity...

Brian Cahill should be terminated for cause tomorrow morning.

The sad thing is that Cahill isn't unique. Pukes like him can be found in every diocese and in every "branch" of Catholic Charities.

It is not up to the Vatican to make everything right.

We have bishops who have full jurisdiction to correct all this and many willfully choose evil over the good.

Contact your local bishop... support him when he makes courageous decisions & charitably admonish him when he makes unwise/immoral decisions. (Read up on the success of St. Catherine of Siena.)

Most of the time, the heterodox Catholics are the most vocal and influential. Faithful Catholics often live their lives in silence.

I do fault the Vatican for poor choice of shepherds. Father Corapi should be an archbishop or even cardinal by now, if I was doing the picking of bishops.

There again we are silent. We do not petition the Vatican for faithful and courageous men of conviction to be elevated to the episcopacy.

When is the Vatican going to put an end to this madness?!

Let's see. The head of Catholic Charities won't obey his bishop. Many bishops won't obey the Vatican. What exactly do you think the Vatican can do? Send the Swiss Guard over to arrest these creeps?

The solution lies with the local laity. They've got to apply enough pressure to have these individuals removed, especially if the bishop won't do his duty. This should include withholding funds, staging public protests, giving the bishop and the executives in question not one moments rest, etc.

Fortunately, in this case, it appears the bishop is doing his job. A good sign as the Niederauer appointment was suspect in my mind.

The Vatican has issued its statement. It's up to the bishops to implement church teachings, locally.

Boston Catholic Charities announced that it would be pulling out of its historic ministry of adoptions because of the secular state's requirements.

Private adoptions can always be engineered. This is the state asking the Church to place children, and the Church saying we will, but on our terms. People can still go to a Church and ask for help.

It is a double edged sword when the Church gets involved in the bureaucracy of the secular state.
