Vatican and traditionalists: rumors continue
Catholic World News ^

Apr. 21 (CWNews.com) - During a closed-door meeting on March 23 with the College of Cardinals, Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) indicated that he plans a move to allow broader use of the old Latin Mass. The exact nature of the Pope's move, and its timing, remain matters of intense speculation.

As the French bishops concluded their annual assembly on April 7, Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard revealed that the Pope is expected to issue directives "in the coming weeks or months" that would appeal to traditionalist Catholics. The French cardinal confirmed that Pope Benedict is particularly anxious to find ways of restoring normal relations with the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX).

Interesting. I'm glad that Papa is spending so much energy on this!

I think people who are separated from St. Peter deserve every effort (that both charity and prudence can bear,) to bring them back. Especially groups with a valid Eucharist.

Yawn.

I thought we were to hear something earth-shaking about this stuff on Holy Thursday.

Reliable Sources said so.

Snooooooooze. When the Holy Father *does something*, makes a authoritative pronouncement, etc., etc., that will be news. All this blither is just gossip, and it's tacky.

I think it will.

I think it is important to point out that while the rumors expected the new document on Holy Thursday, it appears that Vatican documents, for some reason, often don't get promulgated for awhile after they are signed. As an example Deus Caritas Est was released on January 25 but at the end of the encyclical it reads "Given in Rome, at Saint Peter's, on 25 December, the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord, in the year 2005, the first of my Pontificate."

Maybe we can expect something around the 13th of May.

I think it will happen...there's just too much of a buzz about it. I think the Holy Father's been paying attention. He sees that the most vital part of the Church, all over the world, is the most traditional part of the Chuch. Liberal dioceses are a vocations wasteland but wherever we have strong, orthodox bishops we see abundant vocations. Traditional religious orders are thriving while liberal orders are literally dying. Indult Masses are attended by young families...families with clean, polite and reverent children. It's going to happen.

That date is, interesting enough, an anniversary of one of Our Lady of Fatima's apparitions.
