The Anglican Communion Network has just launched a parish locator on its website. Now, anyone looking for a Network member church in his or her area can simply go to www.acn-us.org and type in a city and state to see what churches are located near them.

When users click on one of the pinpoints shown in their search results, the locator gives the name, address and telephone contact information for the parish. The locator can also connect directly to a Google map for directions to the church and to that church's website, if they have one. To access the locator from the Network's homepage, a user can simply click on "Find a Church" from the sidebar menu.

The locator includes member parishes in each of the 10 Network dioceses as well as member parishes in each of the five geographic convocations and the Forward in Faith convocation. It also includes those in the International Conference, which is comprised of parishes that are under the oversight of non-U.S. bishops. A small number of churches that have asked that their affiliation remain private are not included.

"This information tool will be useful for a number of purposes," said the Rev. Cn. Daryl Fenton, Chief Operating Officer for the ACN. "Obviously, those who are looking for an orthodox Anglican church in their area will be able to find one quickly using the locator. In addition, the locator can help our member parishes find one another for mutual support and coordinated ministry."

[To those looking for an Anglican church and are willing to at least look at traditional Continuing churches (like me, you might have no Network churches in your area), may I suggest a look at my Traditional Anglican Directory and Resource Page? In the early 1980s I unintentionally wandered into a Continuing church ... and have remained there ever since. --sionnsar]

Here's a clickable link.

The map based system, to put it mildly, needs a great deal of work. One of the markers in Richardson, TX, shows a Corsicana address. One along LBJ in Dallas shows a Pittsburg Texas address.

They would have been a lot better off just putting up a list by state and city.
