Biblical inerrancy and supernaturalism, to start with.
Theyre getting the Catholic faithful, he said.
Shouldn't that read the Catholic unfaithful?
Supernaturalism? Eucharistic miracles and Marian apparitions aren't supernatural?
Agreed -- but you know the Mods would eventually just take away Pentecost.
I can see that my use of quotes on "church" could give the impression that I don't think a Pentecostal congregation is a church. That wasn't my intention, and I appreciate your pointing out my inadequate editing of my post.
I'm cold ... I want the spa back!
What good would that do...The only reason those languages are referred to are to again correct Englis Translations from those languages...
And there have already been over a couple hundred different translations into English, surely translators would have gotten it right by now...
not to mention sufficient history to understand the background of Scripture
The Bible IS history...The background is the Old Testament...Extra-biblical history is no doubt interesting but there's no need for it to understand the Bible...
lessons on the teachings of the Fathers to ensure that one's interpretation is consistent with that of the Church through the ages
Pentecostals have access to the same scripture as your church and church Fathers had...Obviously the Pentecostals disagree with your church's interpretation of the scriptures...
Good solid lessons on the proper interpretation of Scripture for starters,
I study the scriptures as all Christians are commanded to...I read commentaries written by Catholics as well as Protestants...I'm convinced the Protestants line up far more closely with the Bible than the Catholics do...Apparently the Pentecostals feel the same way...
As I understand it, most Catholics are 'born into the religion'...
You figure it's the work of the devil or the Holy Spirit that's rounding up the Catholics and the secular people and drawing them to the Pentecostal churches???
In simple words, I believe that there are many Catholics ""out there" who seem hidden now, but will, in God's good time, bear the fruit of their hidden Gospel lives.
I also believe that all that is hidden will one day be revealed.
Thanks for the explanation and your gracious post, TC.
Thanks for clarifying that...
You're welcome. When I say something I didn't mean to say, I certainly don't mind having it pointed out!
OK. I understand the "church" thing.
Now could you please tell me how you can say that "Catholic seminaries educate their students out of believing in the Gospel"?
I have been in seminaries, I have talked with seminarians, I have corresponded with seminarians, I have communicated with their teachers.
It is not true that they have been "educated out of belief in the Gospels".
Perhaps we are just back to YOPIOS.
2 Thess 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.
It was mentioned in the 40s as being large and significant, along with fundamentalism. Perhaps 60 years is very recent to some.
Yes they are, which makes Catholic hostility to the Biblical miracles simply maddening.
Oh, that's right . . . if you believe in Biblical miracles you're a "Protestant!"
Here it is:
Sermon for Sexagesima Sunday By Fr. Pfeiffer
Did you ever see Fr. Lester's website when he was in the Philippines?
Only modernist Catholics are hostile to biblical miracles.
Not in my personal experience. I believe in the multiplication of the loaves and the fishes. I belive in the miracle of the water to the wine. I believe in the miraculous healings performed by Our Lord. Those are all Biblical.
You can't know with certainty in this world what will bear fruit and what won't. That's in God's domain.
