First off - MANY THANKS - for all your prayers and postings to the thread posted by Sandyeggo. The challenge was responding to them from my BlackBerry, with only one arm operational. It was your prayers that have brought me through this far and I ask that you please continue them until a final prognosis is made.
Last week, I accidentally tripped and fell flat on my abdomen, walking up the steps of the Capitol. It knocked the wind out of me and took a few minutes before I could get up. I turned down the offer of an ambulance, thinking it was nothing more than a some dust and bruised ego. The following day, I noticed some soreness on the left side of the pelvic cavity but expected it was simply some mild swelling in reaction to the fall. The next morning, however, I could barely stand up. Not wanting to impose on anyone, I drove myself to the outpatient clinic of a local hospital where they ran several tests including a c/t scan. The doctor advised me that everything was fine except for a mild infection of the bladder. That seemed odd ... how could a fall cause an infection? ... but I took the medicine they prescribed fully expecting that would be the end of it. By Friday evening, things got progressively worse and my daughter drove me back to the E/R. This time, the c/t tech ran the scan with die which showed several possibilities and they admitted me to the hospital.
On Saturday, I was visited by the Urologist on duty who went through a battery of questions, projecting various possible outcomes. Today the primary Urologist reviewed the same images and provided even more scenarios. All agreed that the most important thing at this time is to let the inflammation go down through antibiotics, and rerun the images again next week.
I would like to share some of the brighter moments with from this experience.
On Saturday morning, my pastor rushed over to the hospital, spent an hour with me and gave me a Sacramental Healing Blessing with chrism (throughout the day, I could smell the balsam emanating from my hands).
The Daughter's of St. Ann (our women's auxiliary) sent a beautiful arrangement of flowers that included a mass card with the image of St. Ann on its cover.
Sandyeggo, set up the prayer thread that brought so much comfort throughout this time of extreme pain and discomfort.
Freeper AfraidfortheRepublic, visiting family in Albany, also sent a beautiful arrangement of flowers that simply lit up the room and put a big smile on this miserable face.
The on duty Urologist was a Chinese physician. We had never met before yet 'clicked' the minuted he came into the room. Before leaving yesterday, he noticed the Rosary beads on the night stand, and promised to pray for me!
This afternoon, so many parishioners called offering to run errands or pay a visit and all assured me of their prayers.
It is in our times of great need that friends step forward and let you know how much they care. To each and everyone of you who posted a comment, prayer or offered one up silently, that I extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation. Rest assured that I am there for you too, when you need it.

Good to hear from you and glad that you are back home. Sounds like a week of antibiotics and waiting for the next set of tests.
Well, get plenty of rest. Even if you don’t want to. Hopefully it’s just an infection that will respond to medication.
