But DADDY will have none of it. He declares, LOVING ONE AOTHER TRUMPS THE LAW.

I prefer the event from the lips of Yah'shua remembered by Peter through the pen of Mark

Mark 12:29 Jesus( Yah'shua ) answered, "The foremost is,
'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD;

Mark 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART,
AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.'
[Deut. 6:4,5]

Mark 12:31 "The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'[Lev. 19:18]
There is no other commandment greater than these."

Mark 12:32 The scribe said to Him, "Right, Teacher; You have truly stated
that HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE BESIDES HIM;

Mark 12:33 AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH
ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH,
AND TO LOVE ONE'S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF,
is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."

Mark 12:34 When Jesus (Yah'shua) saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him,
"You are not far from the kingdom of God."

You’re welcome!

It is hard to see others as God sees them. I like to tell my Sunday School classes that the message of the parable of the Good Samaritan, the answer to the question, “Who is my neighbor?” is: Your neighbor is the person that you *least* want him to be, the one you really, really wish you weren’t expected to love and treat with compassion.

Yeah, you already dislike him and what he did just confirms your opinion. I actually felt sorry for him in this instace because I think Kim is probably practicing parental alienation and he’s probably frustrated as H$ll.

I don’t see any reason to believe that either one of them is a prize as a spouse or parent. I mean, they named their daughter “Ireland”! It’s really sad; they’re all probably miserable, and likely to stay that way.

I receive your correction dear sister and will redouble my efforts to be more careful with such word choices—particularly on such threads as these.

You are kind! On further reflection, I might have been too sensitive :-).

The vain repetition comes in when it’s no longer the vehicle for communication with God, but becomes a creature itself, where you think if I say X, Y will happen.

Extremely well put. Thanks much.

I agree.

And, the National Christian leaders whom I’ve known tend to go to such famous people in such times—do show love first but also speak truth in love to them.

Usually, though, it takes some building of a relationship at least briefly to earn a hearing by such folks—unless there’s some uncommon humility to begin with.

Nor do I believe it’s a schmaltzy feel-good love he’s talking about. Or that we have the obligation to let the people who hate us kill us just because they want to. But it does require seeing each person as a child of God and acting accordingly.

I’m still working on this one.

Well put. Thx.

It’s amazing how many little ways we can witness. Some of it is witnessing that God matters. Some of it is witnessing how much God is a part of our lives. Some of it is reaching out with prayer and kindness. With God seen as a negative, sometimes just letting God be seen in a positive is the first step. These things often open the door to a way to share more deeply.
= = =

FOR SURE! THX.

Have often thought of it in those terms since Jr High.

And much spiritual growth has come from that exercise.

I’d rather have a worthy exhortation from a hyper-sensitivity than miss a chance to grow. Thanks much for you being you.

I wish I’d thought of it sooner, because it certainly does stimulate growth.

Getting to this conversation a bit late, but want to share my current perspective on love:

Rom. 13:8
Let no debt
remain outstanding,
except
the continuing debt
to love
one another,
for whoever
loves others
has fulfilled
the law.

I cannot do this kind of love apart from God. I fail at this kind of love, and yet, its call is always there, similarly, the verse somewhere in 1 or 2 or 3 John that says if I say I love God but hate my brother the truth is not in me.

It helps me to know when we LOVE ALL, it makes us all ONE group, no outcasts, no wannabe-s, no less-thans, no one-ups, no one-downs, just everybody everywhere, all of us created by God, His creation, the world for whom God so loved that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus, THAT WORLD.

And, boy, it sure is convicting when I realize someone is on my list of exclusions, someone I don’t feel like loving, boys howdy and hold the phone! Time to search my heart and pray to the Lord and lay it out and ask Him to show me what’s going on and to help me turn it around and love that person too, to love them through me — I cannot do it without His help.

And then I don’t have to worry about, who is on my “I don’t have to love you” list, because I have a debt to ALL people to love them, so that list shouldn’t and mustn’t exist.

This requirement isn’t met apart from the Lord, it’s done with His help, with His holy love inside of me.

And any concerns about my not keeping the law of the old covenant are met in this all-inclusive love.

Grace, mercy, and love,
jm
