Time bomb in new city budget? [Philly votes to boot Scouts]

In other business, Council cleared the way for the city to terminate a lease the city has had with the Cradle of Liberty Council of the Boy Scouts since 1928 for the half-acre of land at 22nd and Spring streets where the Boy Scouts built their regional headquarters building.
At issue is the national Boy Scouts policy of discrimination against homosexuals and the Street administration's response that the city should not subsidize an entity that engages in discrimination.
City Solicitor Romulo Diaz said yesterday the city is not pushing the Boy Scouts to leave, preferring them to reject the discriminatory policy or start paying rent.
"The ball is in the [Boy Scout] council's court," he said.
Jeff Jubelirer, a spokesman for the local Boy Scouts organization, said the Scouts felt "blindsided" by Council's action. He made the same comment last July when the administration and the Fairmount Park Commission gave notice that the local Scouts faced lease termination.
Yesterday, Jubelirer said the city has yet to tell the Cradle of Liberty Council what fair-market-value rent would be.
Council's action came on a resolution introduced by Clarke, who said he opposes the fair-market-value rent alternative.
"You should not be able to stay in a publicly funded facility without signing nondiscriminatory language regardless of whether you pay rent," he said.

Good organizations like the Boy Scouts shouldn’t even associate with a scummy city like Philadelphia.
They should go ahead and leave, and go somewhere where they don’t have to put up with government BS.
So true. They always seem to be targeted by everyone. It is crazy. I enjoyed my time in the scouts. I never made it to Eagle, but I was in for three or four years.
I was in for five, have been away for a long time, and wouldn’t be welcomed back in now, for obvious reasons.
Why would you not be welcomed into the BSA?
That is why most councils are smart enough to own their land and headquarters usually by donation then when things get tight and land prices have skyrocketed they sell for all the market will bear. Think of the appreciation since 1928!
Above is my post on the scouter message board on this topic with the thread reference. The Philly scouters should be ashamed of themselves for not getting a building donated years ago where they would not have had to put up with the whims of a city council.
The city will then have a piece of "public" land and a building that they will have the responsibility for maintaining.
Because of my current (lack of) religion, that’s why.
“You should not be able to stay in a publicly funded facility without signing nondiscriminatory language regardless of whether you pay rent,” he said.
Except when in jail, or going through Basic Combat Training, or if you are Jesse Jackson, or Cynthia McKinney, Robert Byrd.....
But wait, theses people are only holding the Scouts to the same candle they hold everyone else to!...
Few things make me want to lash out violently. Boy Scouts getting shafted like this is one of them.
Hey Philly! Fix your politicians, or you’ll find yourselves on the losing side!
Scouts are a Reflection of Honest wholesome living in the Country trying to replicate a Kid growing up on a Farm for Urban Kids!
Now they want kids to emmulate Homosexuals who don’t have self respect let alone the respect of society...Dougherty FUMO Brady Nutter and the crowd all got educated at Catholic schools and they turned out as the Biggest supporters and apologist for Monopolized Labor Groups in Philadelphia that have destroyed it and now the homosexuals! Pathetic!
