British David Yallop, writes a book besmirching the memory of the great, late Servant of God.
Folks, according to Juan G. Bedoya, a reporter for the Spanish newsdaily El País, David Yallop, a 70-year old British historian, has come up with a newbook, entitled, The Power and the Glory: The Hidden History of the Papacy of Pope John Paul II, in which he casts aspersions against the late Pope. Here are some of the claims Yallop makes about Pope John Paul:
- A pontificate as grandiose in its purpose as twisted in its resultsYallop was also the author of In God's Name, a book about the "violent death" of Pope John Paul I.- Unable to stop Vatican corruption.
- Covered-up child sexual abuse in the U.S. and Austria.
- Obdurate protection of Legionnaires of Christ's founder, Marcial Maciel.
- Close relations with sinister dictators such as Augusto Pinochet (strange that he didn't mention Yassir Arafat)
- Merciless persecution of Latin American liberation theologians
The book was unveiled at a recent conference in Spain. It is expected that the alleged revelations contained in the book will "put the breaks" to the ongoing canonization process of the Pope John Paul the Great.
Commentary. A crackpot, a conman, and a vile man, unworthy of even untying the shoes of the late, great Pope. That's how history will in turn remember David Yallop, that is, if history were to remember him at all.

As a passionate Catholic I detest the spirit of this book. Still, about the Legionnaires of Christ, he is dead on. They should be disbanded and the memory of their founder obliterated.
JP2 supposedly had a little bit of a blind eye towards specific accusations of homosexuality, as he had become so accustomed to those being justifications for Soviet flase imprisonment, torture, and slander. Nonetheless, he was warning about child abuse in general as early as the mid 1980s; it’s just that the mainstream media didn’t understand what he was referring to and treasured their beloved triumvirate of American Catholicism (Law, Bernardin, and Mahony). Reforms by JP2, however, succeeded in cutting the rate of sexual abuse by more than 90 percent before the mainstream media even got whiff of the story.
In the waning months of JP2’s reign, and since then, further accusations against Maciel have come forward, so that the sheer volume has forced Vatican action to remove the danger of further abuses. Initially, however, the accusations lacked specifics, and seemed to be politically motivated; Legionnaires was much despised by Mexico’s Communist aristocracy. This is not say that John Paul II did not err in not having removed Maciel sooner, just to say that his motives were necessarily sinister.
So John Paul I was "offed", John Paul II was immersed in corruption and its cover up, Pius XII was Hitler's puppet, John XXIII knew the date of the apocalypse but wouldn't tell us.
The next scoop will be about Benedict XVI. Any guesses what it will be about? Here's a clue. He's German.

Yes that is correct, and all it does is show the Pope was not perfect.
I’m sure he didn’t consider himself perfect as well.
He was however - a man of God. Even in scripture we repeatedly see men of God failing to achieve perfection.
But men (and women) of God keep persevering.

I think quite the opposite. Yallop's allegations may actually strengthen the ongoing research into the late pontiff's worthiness for canonization.
I can see that John Paul II may have made mistakes during his pontificate, but were they serious enough to cancel out the man's overall holiness and intense devotion to the Church he was called to lead in Jesus' name? This reminds me of how some people are now second-guessing Mother Teresa because she had her moments of spiritual crisis. But, don't we all?
Right. Along with the other “apostates” John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, and Benedict XVI. (sarcasm)
