LDS defend the faith as Christian
The Salt Lake Tribune ^ | 10/07/07 | By Peggy Fletcher Stack

Posted on 10/08/2007 7:49:32 AM PDT by colorcountry

Not only is Mormonism a Christian faith, it is the truest form of Christianity, said speaker after speaker on the first day of the 177th Semiannual LDS General Conference. LDS authorities were responding to the allegation that Mormonism isn't part of Christianity. Made by different mainline Protestant and Catholic churches and repeated constantly during coverage of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, the claim is based on Mormonism's beliefs about God, its rejection of ancient ideas about the Trinity still widely accepted, and the LDS Church's extra-biblical scriptures. "It is not our purpose to demean any person's belief nor the doctrine of any religion," said Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland in the afternoon session. "But if one says we are not Christians because we do not hold a fourth- or fifth-century view of the Godhead, then what of those first [Christians], many of whom were eye-witnesses of the living Christ, who did not hold such a view either?"

{snip}

The day's sermons included many familiar themes, including the importance of faith, the need for pure thoughts and actions, avoiding pornography reaching out to neighbors and eliminating spiritual procrastination. Hinckley talked about the destructive nature of anger in marriages, on the road, and in life, urging Mormons to "control your tempers, to put a smile upon your faces, which will erase anger; speak with words of love and peace, appreciation and respect."

It becomes apparent (weeks ago) that LDS will cite the Church Fathers where it serves to valid the heresies in Mormonism, but will scoff at the Church history in general as apostate. The bait and switch, switcheroo, and dissembling is more than my feeble intellect can keep up with without a scorecard/playbill. Nice pictures though ... and how much do you understand about the history of baptism in Judaism?

Even when they cite church fathers, they misrepresent what is said and being communicated.

On one hand, they cite the church fathers when they think they support the Mormon position, then on the other hand they impune them, saying they were apostate. A most dishonest tactic.

What about love one another? What about feeding the hungry? Clothing the naked? You know, those things that Jesus Christ Himself mentioned?

If you ‘feel’ those are essential for salvation, you’re mistaken. You may do much of that once you are born again, but none of it will get you born again.

Your last paragraph is a fabrication based upon one line of one discourse by Brigham Young, regarding the establishment of a “Theocracy” which NEVER existed. And he was talking about voluntary blood atonement as a possibility. This, of course, was NEVER practiced by the Church.

Why did the Lord Jesus Christ give us commandments in the New Testament? To waste His breath? Of course not! He gave us commandments to OBEY. Like repentence, endurance to the end by obedience to the Lord is a requirement for salvation. His grace is entirely sufficient to then perfect His saints.

Bless you.

13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

What are the two commandments Jesus gave for us?

In the chart you posted, you say that one of the things that make Mormons the wrong religion is that we say “The LDS Church is the only true church.”

Then you say about your “true” church:

“The church is a body of various believers and groups of believers.
The one true church is the invisible, spiritual, and universal body of Christ in heaven and on earth made up of all those true believers from various local denominations or visible churches. The body is an organism, not an external organization. Unity in this body does not demand complete uniformity in its various manifestations. God loves diversity. Yet the church’s unity is in Christ, who is the vine. People in various denominations who are committed to the Vine are the branches; no one particular manifestation of the church is the vine.”

So, what you are saying is that your groups are members of the “one true religion”. If another group does not agree with your beliefs, they are not part of the one true church.

You have also said that one of the reasons the LDS church is not the true church is because we declare that we are the one true church. You are saying and have said that it is wrong to call yourself the one true church.

Conclusion: by your own internal defection, because you call yourself a member of one of the groups that is part of the one true religion, and because it is wrong for a group to call itself the one true religion, you are saying that you are not part of the true religion and that your religion is not true. You are saying that you yourself are wrong.

You seem to be confused.

They probably spent hours in the PR department trying to figure out how to say “We’re right and you’re wrong.” without actually saying it

++++++++++++++++++++++++

And you are saying it with a very nasty voice,

You said:

President. Hinckley, the leader of Mormonism, was being totally honest and told the truth; Mormons do not worship the traditional Jesus Christ who is described in the Bible, the Holy Word of God. They worship a false Christ as proclaimed and taught by Joseph Smith, who, according to Hinckley “knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages”... if you believe that, there is a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you.

++++++++++

When did you buy the bridge, and why do you want to sell it. How about telling the truth about what the President said. He speaks of how people interpret the writings and how they and you believe what your profits say about how the bible should be understood. You have to believe someone had the spirit of God and Christ, even if it is you, to believe your understanding is right. Then you act the way you believe your profit says you should. It is your actions that make up the the traditional Jesus Christ.

Mormonism are referred to in Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases (including the hard copy I have) as a pseudo religion

+++++++++++++++++++++++

So now Roget is one of your profits. You refer to him as if he has divine right to say what he says.

That Christ was conceived when “God” had normal human relations with Mary.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Come on, tell the truth. Christ was conceived in the normal manner, you know an egg meet the sperm.

There is no mention HOW the egg and sperm came together, the idea of “normal human relations” is a miss leading set of words to make you feel, so you will not think. Some one is miss leading you and on this, you have bought the bridge.

He is all powerful. He always was, and always will be.
He has never changed, nor will He ever change.
We will never be all powerful creators. We will not be receiving our own planet to “save”.
We did not always exist, we had a beginning of our existence.
We will always remain creatures - created by God for all eternity.

++++++++++++++++++

So you are a profit and can tell God what he can and can not do. Remember he is all powerful and [by yore own definition]. He can do what he wants to.

God is so powerful that he created the entire universe by speaking it into existence. If He can do that, I suspect He can probably get a book published and thwart the efforts of mere men to corrupt that work. I came to realize that a god so weak that he couldn’t get his own teaching out without it being corrupted by men is probably not a god worthy of worship in the first place.

++++++++++++++++++++++++=

I have seen different translation of the bible that do not agree with each other.

Or the mormon Jesus Christ, who was created as a spirit being,
wasn’t God, but a man, and became a god later??

+++++++++++++++++

Why do you use half truths? Or do you just repeat what others have said?

Go back and look up what is really said about Christ and His Godhood.

The foundations of Mormonism are lies and fabrication that have been proven fabrications from imagination of one Joseph Smith. The book of mormon can not stand up against archaeology or genetics.

++++++++++++++++=

You do know that there are writings by an eye witness who knew Jesus and Marry and also knew who the roman solider who really fathered jesus, He also has first hand knowledge as to how Marry lied to her husband to be so he would still take her to be hi wife.

By this account of a first hand witness, your church and your savior are all something made up by the mother of a basterd. It is All BASED ON A LIE.

Your church is a lie.

It is proven by an eye witness.

Why is he wrong and you are right?

What are you talking about? I have heard of this accusation by anti-Christians but it has no historical authority and certainly is not documented in any authentic way. You are just trying to bash Jesus based on nothing but anti-Christian speculation.

My point is that to a mormon, once they have the great subjective experience,
they will insist Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and that
the “latter day revelation” is supreme... without need for
troublesome “Bible study” or showing yourself “approved
as a workman”.

+++++++++++++++++++++++====

Why do you miss lead with un-truths. Bible study is, like study of the Book of Mormon, is a corner stone of what most of us do. We study both.

He is an eye witness and he must have the same authority as the eyewitness against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have.

1. Mormon doctrine is wrong, Mormon written scripture is uninspired, and Mormon sacramental practices are over the top.
2. To the extent that anyone truly & biblically believes in the Jesus of the Bible through the words of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Paul, James, that person is a saved Christian in my opinion.

+++++++++++++++++

So what is the name of your PROPHIT who decided which by the Lord would go into your bible.

And why did he leave out other writings inspired be our savior?
