To Find the Creator, Forsake All Creatures I've never understood this. Am I not supposed to love my pets? Someone please explain to this simple mind. In fact, I believe the Lord granted me one of my beloved pets (an unsolicited gift from someone I didn't know) and this pet got me through the darkest days -- not sure I would have made it to now otherwise.

Love is the highest commandment. I believe it is okay, but this comes from an animal lover and pet mom (2 dogs, one cat and a rodent my daughter left behind when she went off to college!)

I believe it is to love God above all things.
If your pets were to die, it would be God who would help you through that loss.
Similarly, if one’s spouse were to die, it would be God that would help the remianing individual through that ordeal. BTW, I have experienced this!
