Who ever said I said anything about Catholics?

I’ve seen “images” of Christ in Protestant churches as well. Many thousands of evangelicals flocked to see “The Passion”.

(’Holy Images’ is a misnomer - an inanimate object cannot be holy. Holiness is a status of the soul, for sentient beings)

That's not true. God is holy, and people, places, and things, days, times and seasons are holy exactly and only to the the extent that they are related to God.

Genesis 2:3
And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy

Exodus 3:5
Do not come any closer, God said. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground

Exodus 15:13
In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling

Exodus 16:23
He said to them, This is what the LORD commanded: 'Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD.

Exodus 19:6
you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.'

Exodus 19:23
Moses said to the LORD, The people cannot come up Mount Sinai, because you yourself warned us, 'Put limits around the mountain and set it apart as holy.'

As for images: God Himself instructed the making of images of both earthly and heavenly creatures (lions, bulls, and angels) to adorn His temple in Jerusalem. Before the Incarnation, one couldn't make an image of God Himself because He is bodiless; but things are different now. Since the Incarnation,

"Christ, who is the image of God"

God has made it possible for us not only to see Him, but to portray Him

Colossians 1:15
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

This has been true rom the earliest days of Christianity. The catacombs under the city of Rome, where Christians from the first century AD buried their dead, hid, gathered, and worshipped, has many images of Christ.
