How do generations learn about previous generations? Only through history books?

What contemporary, or nearly contemporary, history books are there in existance concerning the ministry and role of Peter in Rome?

"Tradition" is meaningless as history.

It was an example, Reggie, to get you to think about how oral tradition can be included in the forming of Christianity. But since you asked, why don't you try Encyclopedia Britanica?
