If he never rose from the dead the smartest thing His followers could do would be to stop talking about Him and spare themselves the lash. If supernatural abilities makes one G-d... then, when Moses brought the 10 plagues to Egypt, you must believe that Moses is G-d.

Face it, being able to turn the Nile into blood, or water into wine DOES NOT qualify someone to be G-d.
