Rabbi Walter Homolka: "The Catholic Church does not have its anti-Semitic tendencies under control." Around the world, millions of Catholics are celebrating Good Friday, when they commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. But for many Jews, this year's ceremonies leave a bitter aftertaste, due to a controversial new version of a prayer that many claim is anti-Semitic.
Last month, the Vatican announced that Pope Benedict XVI had revised the so-called "Good Friday Prayer for the Jews" which forms part of the Tridentine Mass, often referred to as the Latin Mass. The new version, translated from the Latin, reads: "Let us also pray for the Jews: That our God and Lord may illuminate their hearts, that they acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all men..."

An essential part of Christianity is to wish that all the world become Christian. Christians these days tend to want to do it by persuasion and prayer rather than sawing off heads
Perhaps the rabbi should have been in my pew on Good Friday, and heard my priest tell us that it was OUR sins that put Christ on the cross.
I think the Roman church needs to re-read Paul's letter to the believers in Rome:
shalom b'shem Yah'shua ( YHvH be my salvation )
Very specifically: Romans 11 where Paul discusses who is grafted into whom.
YHvH's larger plan of salvation, where His People are blinded for a time,
in order to bring His salvation to the gentile nations. NAsbU Romans 11:15 For if their ( His Chosen People )
And their ultimate salvation after a period of blindness is guaranteed by YHvH's covenant :
rejection is the reconciliation of the world,
what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
NAsbU Romans 11:25 For I do not want you, brethren,
to be uninformed of this mystery--
so that you will not be wise in your own estimation--
that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until
the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;
26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written (in Isaiah 59),
"THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION,
HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB."

Sounds like the Rabbi doesn’t have his anti-Christian tendencies under control.
I’m getting a bit tired of this. Remember how hysterical they were when Gibson’s Passion of the Christ movie came out? They were predicting all sorts of violent acts against Jewish people which never happened.
All people have freedom (in the USA and Europe, at least for now) to worship the way they want to. If I want to pray for the conversion of the Jews, the Muslims, the purple peaple eaters, or whomever, I can do so. It is not harmful to pray to God for them. They are free to pray to God for me too, if they so choose.

I think we’re well aware of Romans 11. In fact, the prayer in question is clearly based on it, and prays for its speedy fulfillment.
Christians: pray for the conversion of the Jews.
Muslims: convert or die.

They become a "called out one", a member of the Ekklesia.
They become a Messianic Jew.The L-rd's name ( Shem ) is not je-zeus; it is Yah'shua ( YHvH is my salvation )
Which is why you must call on His Name for salvation.
Jews rejected Christ then and still do today.
Now they claim to be victimized by Christians, praying for their salvation.

And why is it that when Jews have an issue with someone the non-Jew is always anti-Semitic ?

Amen, biscuit jane. The Pope did the right thing by saying that prayer. Paul prayed for the conversion of the Jews. In fact, he even preached to them. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Furthermore, the other apostles, and even Jesus, preached to the Jews and prayed for them. So should we. There’s nothing anti-Semitic about that.
I’m not Catholic, but I wanted to fill you in that as a white Christian you are not allowed to be offended by anything.. YOU are the root of all evil you know...sarcasm off...
I am well aware of who is grafted into whom. But don’t forget that Paul also prayed for the conversion of the Jews in Romans 9 and 10. He even preached to them. We should do the same.
As for Jesus’ name, I know that His name in Hebrew is Y’shua. But remember that the New Testament was written in Greek. His name in Greek is Iesous, which is transliterated as Jesus in most English translations. No translation that I know of has ever translated the name as Je-zeus, nor has anyone that I know of ever called Him Je-zeus. I certainly don’t call Him Je-zeus. I call him Jesus. The name Jesus has no connection with Zeus whatsoever. If you don’t believe me, look up the name “Jesus” in the Strong’s Concordance. There’s no mention of Zeus in the entry on Jesus.
Neither all Jews then, nor any Jews now, are responsible for the death of Christ. There is no collective responsibility, so I don't think it is helpful to bring that up here. This rabbi is all washed up, because of course Catholics have every right to pray for the conversion of the Jews, as they pray for the conversion of everyone to the fullness of salvation found in Christ. The Jews can pray about being the chosen people if they want to. Neither can tell the other what to do. It's called freedom of religion.
Instead of being presumptuous by praying for the Jews,shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua
the Roman church might want to review the Word of G-d and start
celebrating the holy feast days commanded by G-d and reject
the Pagan feasts of Easter, Christmas and Sunday.
