You are quite far off with that statement.
I've noticed that Mormons are obsessed with "denominations" so as to have the LDS seen as a Christian denomination.
In fact "freedom of religion" back then meant freedom to belong to any denomination, and not have one religion (Christian denomination) as the one representing America.
It had nothing to do with freedom of non-Christian religions like Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.
For example, the FLDS is a denomination of the LDS religion.
They have the same base and starting point.
Your statement, "Lutherans are a separate and distinct religion from Catholicism" is off base.
Both are Christian denominations, but the exact same religion.

If you wish to post some quotes from history (Christian history, not Mormon history) that prove your point about how Christianity is structured, I would like to see that.
When ever I post something about the Mormon religion, I always point to the writings of the LDS church.
