Catholic Citizens of Illinois (www.catholiccitizens.org), a lay organization of Roman Catholics who support the teachings of the Catholic Church, is calling on Francis Cardinal George to remove Rev. Michael Phleger as pastor of St. Sabina's immediately. Phleger's tirades are racist and there's nothing Catholic about them. A few years ago, Phleger threatened to start a new church rather than be re-assigned. He has started a new church, but on Archdiocese of Chicago property. Phleger's scandalous conduct is shameful and an embarrassment to the Catholic Church.
He should be removed!
He should just join Farrakhan's.
With his preaching style, if defrocked, he could open an inner city church and become a “black” preacher. ;-)
Did Cardinal George reprimand him already. I heard something on Fox, but an not sure what it was.
He reminds me of Stallings, from DC, although Stallings actually was black. However, he finally went too far, had to be removed - and went off and set up his own church-of-Stallings. It’s some sort of raving black nationalist thing, of course, and like all these things, attracts a few loonies and sinks like a stone.
That’s why these guys actually fight so hard to stay in the Church, at least technically, because they know that when they set up “their own” church, it’s all over for them.
I never have seen one person spew so much hate and venom in five minutes as this bozo can. This clown is full of hate. He definitely has a problem. Must be some of that new leftwing “religion” the ‘RATS told us they were going to conger up for the upcoming ‘08 election.
It was really weak. If I was in any Church (including my own) and heard the Pastor curse and blaspheme from the pulpit I would run not walk to the nearest exit. The Church is Christ's spotless bride and that behavior can not be tolerated. We are called to glorify Christ not embarrass him.

This a$$clown has been in trouble before, he could care less about being reprimanded. He is backpedaling because he hurt his buddy’s campaign, not because of anything the church might say.

We have suffered through the lavender mafia, the bankrupting of dioceses, the embarrassment and shame of having to explain to non-Catholics why I am still Catholic despite the ugliness perpetrated by those who should have been thrown out by our fearful shepherds, and now, this man who not only playacts liberation theology, but performs feats of calumny and uncharitable words and actions.
Please, all the shepherds and that certainly means you, need to stop being afraid and get these scandals out of the church.
I know you are waiting for this priest to repent and do penance, hope is always there, but in the meantime, he and others are doing massive damage to the lambs.

I would not be suprised if Cardinal George will get a phone call from Rome.
He needs his flock removed pronto. This guy has been doing this crap for years. He marches with Jessie Jackson every chance he get. Is is a left wing loon not a priest. He is not saving souls just being a political hack for left wing causes. If the Catholic Hiearchey does not get rid of this NUT now I have lost all respect for The Church.
This is what not what the Roman Catholic Church in America needs.
Pfleger has been a thorn in the side of the Archdiocese for almost 30 years. He ain’t going to change.
This lefty priest will do damage that is just being repaired since the recent visit of the Pope.

I have never actually seen a minister blaspheme from the pulpit. People were clapping and smiling. You would think someone would know enough to fear God. More than any of his other words, those broke the 1st Commandment. That there is no shunning of this man says so very much about the Church. He’s Catholic? Whoa. Get me a cave and some MREs.

The Archbishop - and presumably, his predecessor - was probably hoping for all those 30 years that they’d never have to do anything about him. The theory is that if you ignore people like this, they just go away...hah! That’s from the Spineless Bishop’s Little Useless Handbook of Management.
What the bishops never realize is that ignoring a problem only lets it get worse and worse and worse, until dealing with it goes from being mildly difficult to a colossal problem.
