If I Want To Convert To Islam?

I have a legitimate question to my American Muslim brothers:

As an agnostic, how would I be able to convert to Islam? What is the procedure??

Do I have to renounce my childhood Christian background? What Islamic rites must I recognize? What ceremonial process need I go through to give my soul to Allah and his Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon Him)?

As I read the Koran and the Hadiths, I am starting to get a better picture of Mohammed's (Peace be upon him) message.

I am now desirious of leaning more, but don't know where to start.

After reading much on the Internet, including ancient scribes in the Koran, I am learning that Islam just may be the avenue to peace on Earth and eternal life.

I am seriously fed up with the direction our country is heading.

I NEED and WANT to believe that there is a higher power that will bring my human brothers together and fight for a rightous moral concept that only Allah can provide.

Seriously, help me to understand. I am at a lost and looking towards Islam to provide the moral answers I need in my life. Christianity and Judaism and agnosticism have not provide the answers.

I live in Orange County, CA. Can you guide me to a local Mosque so I can hear and experience the wonderful teachings of Mohammed (Peace be upon him)? Too much rum has made me lost and I want something more. My wife is willing, also.

Genocide committed in the name of Allah: 3,000,000 Bangladeshi Hindus Killed during the Pakistan-Bangladesh war in 1971. From 1894 to 1896 Abdul Hamid, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, killed 150,000 Armenian Christians. In India, Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur along with his disciples was burned to death by the Moghul ruler Aurangzeb in 1675. Another Sikh, Bhai Mati Das was sawn into right and left halves while he was still alive. In 1933 thousands of Assyrian villagers were murdered by the Iraqi soldiers in Northern Iraq. Since 1990 more than 10,000 Kashmiri Hindus have been brutally murdered by Islamic fundamentalists. Over 280,000 Ugandans killed during the reign of Idi Amin from 1971 to 1979. Over 30,000 Mauritanians have been killed by the Islamic dictators since 1960. In 1980, 20,000 Syrians were murdered under the rule of Hafez Al-Assad, President of Syria. Since 1992 120,000 Algerians have been murdered by the Islamic fundamentalist army.

Why Mohammad chose Allah as the only deity in Islam?

Pre-Islamic Bedouin Arab society was highly matriarchal as is evident from the worship of many goddesses like Allat, Al Uzza, Mannat. But Arab society had strong patriarchal elements too, as evident in the naming tradition according to which every Arab is known by his father’s name, and not his mother’s.

Having lost his father, the posthumous orphan Mohammad wanted to perpetuate his father’s memory. His father’s name Abdallah was conjugated from Abd-Allah which translates as “Slave of Allah”. This is the reason why Mohammad chose Allah among the many pre-Islamic Arab deities to be the only deity to be worshipped by the Muslims! Not many historians have discerned this fact why it was allah who became the centerpiece of Islam and not any other pre-Islamic Arab male deity like Bēl, Bēl-Šamīn, Abgal, Aglibol, Wadd, and Yaghūth (the last two are in fact referred to in the Qur'an (71:23) as gods of the era of the Prophet Noah).

Even Baal (alternatively known as Hubal) who in fact was the most important deity in pre-Islamic Mecca, found no place in Islam. Only Allah survived in Mohammad’s Islam. So Allah did not choose Mohammad, it was the other way round. Mohammad chose Allah! Allah was chosen by Mohammad as his father was named after allah! Some historians identify Hubal and allah to be the same deity. But, to the best of our knowledge, no historians have discerned this fact why it was allah who became the centerpiece of Islam.

Mohammad’s Epileptic fits were behind his hallucinations that an angel spoke to him revealing the Quran

Mohammad was a paranoid ambitious genius who combined in himself the role of a military strategist, a psychologist, motivator and commander of men. With a harsh childhood in which he lost his parents, he grew to manhood earlier in life than most kids of his age. But the hardships that accompanied his growth from childhood to adolescence made him an epileptic. His epileptic fits were to play a pivotal role in his later life an create an hallucination that some god was talking to him

There is an occurrence in Mohammad’s life that is eloquent on this issue of his mental illness. Once, Mohammad and his foster brother were playing when Halima, his nurse was nursing him in the desert. Suddenly, the foster brother came running to Halima and said that Mohammad was sick. When they went out, they found a young Mohammad behind the bushes with his clothes turned up. It's possible that he was sexually assaulted; however, much later a legend was created partially by Mohammad himself that two angels in grey robe came and one split his chest open and took out the heart and removed a dark clot and then when they weighed him the whole universe weighed less than Mohammad!

The possibility that he was sexually assaulted (sodomized) in his childhood seems to have made him a bitter person and could have accentuated his mental illness, but in spite of this he showed uncanny ability to manipulate and get the results he wanted. In most probabilities, his mental illness could have been a wild form of paranoid schizophrenia.

In his later life, during his 'revelations' he groaned like a she-camel having a baby (which by the way is not a pleasant sound). He had directed his followers to cover him up with a black blanket whenever he suffered from the epileptic fits and that's why he carried this black blanket with him all the time. This narration is the kernel of historical truth that has come down through ages of Arab-Muslim folklore that grew around him...
