PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rhode Island's Roman Catholic bishop is calling on U.S. authorities to halt mass immigration raids and says agents who refuse to participate in such raids on moral grounds deserve to be treated as conscientious objectors.

Providence Bishop Thomas Tobin asked for a blanket moratorium on immigration raids in Rhode Island until the nation adopts comprehensive immigration reform. Tobin made the requests in a letter sent Tuesday to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Boston.

I personally think if the state has to stay out of the churches biz then the church should stay out of the states biz.

This is a violation of the liberal’s “separation of church and state” gig. Somebody call the IRS.

Back in the days when I used to hang out with priests, all of them, to a man, were strong supporters of mass immigration from Mexico and Central America.

“The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has called U.S. immigration policies “morally unacceptable,” saying they keep families divided and encourage the exploitation of migrants.”

This is so much BS! If the children were born here, ship them out with parents. They can always come back after they turn 18-years old.

Elian Gonzales became a U.S. citizen the moment his feet touched U.S. soil. If he had to go back because his dad wasn’t a citizen, so do all the anchor babies.

Lou Dobbs had this story on last night, and his poll question even related to it (as one would expect, he was furious!).

It can be see on his website, about 3/4 down the page:

QuickVote
Do you believe the Rhode Island bishop would be better served by calling on the Mexican government to exercise morality in providing for its citizens rather than encouraging them to break the law and enter the United States?
Yes 97% 4158
No 3% 107
Total Votes: 4265

“moral grounds”? What he talking about? Is it because Mexicans and Latins go to catholic churches? Is he getting worried about donations? He wants federal agents to not enforce US law? It’s immoral that Americans are given second class statis compared to illegals in the bishop’s world.

The bishop gets one vote as a private citizen (assuming he is a citizen).

If he is using his organization to influence or undermine political and legal processes, then his organization's tax-exempt status needs to be revoked. He and his corrupt outfit should be taxed into obscurity like the legitimate participants in our political processes.

That is an interesting thought, it has been debated that the Fourteenth Amendment was not intended for people to break our laws and our sovernity as a nation to come here and have a baby and that baby is a citizen.

The argument is that since they are here unlawfully then the child is here unlawfully too, and both should be sent back to where they came from.

Which I fully agree with.

Another bishop with liberal derangement syndrome.

He would feel very comfortable asking the police NOT to break up the riot until a comprehensive plan was in place to help address their grievances.

I'm sorry to say but this is one issue that as a Catholic I have a real problem with. No church should condone the breaking of the law. All of these illegals had the opportunity to file their paperwork and wait in line like every other person who wants to emigrate to America. What the Catholic church is saying is that it's ok to jump the line at everyone else's expense. It's obvious to me that they are putting their own self-interests ahead of the country's and it disturbs me.

No church should condone the breaking of the law.

Don't confuse idiotic prudential statements made by some members of the Episcopacy with the teaching of the Church. You should write Tobin and let him know he is wrong.

2241 The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.

Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens. (Emphasis added)

It's funny you should say that because we keep hearing from Mexico that it is a human rights violation to keep them from coming here, but from what I understand they shoot you if you come across the southern border of Mexico without a visa.

If this was a right wing Christian group then the IRS would be called in but since it is the RCC and their socialist attitude to immigration then they get a pass.

In Oregon, Bishop Vasa is warning people about the perils of ignoring the devil. In RI, the bishop is advocating breaking the law.

Sigh...

What's stopping you from filing a complaint with the IRS?

By the way, you should review the regulations on 501(c)(3) organizations before you call or write the IRS.

Bishop Thomas Tobin is an agent of the "man of lawlessness".

DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

I'm simply stating that if this was not the RCC there would be investigations. Do you support the Bishop?

You can state the moon is made of cheese and you'd be just as wrong because you still don't know what the IRS regulations are.

Do you support the Bishop?

Suggest you read my earlier post and stop asking dumb questions.
